This is a Winston 9 foot. 10 weight, 4 1/8oz fly rod. It has the rubber fighting knob. In excellent condition. All eyelets and great cosmetic condition. The cork was wrapped in nylon string. I just unwrapped it for this listing. The cork is probably due for some love, but its totally usable. Serials match on both pieces. This is a custom rod. It is a beautiful piece that doesn't get the attention she deserves. I've spent the last week trying to get the color right in the photos. Either the whole photo would be too dark or the the exposure would be correct but rod will look like its black, the actual color is a deep forest green. Comes with the nylon case. What we have is a one-of-a-kind factory error Winston DL4. An ultra rare and collectible Winston to begin with. The DL4s were only produced for 1 year(2002-2003) and just 2500 were produced. This rod. However, is even more special. Winston mislabeled this rod as a"DL5" which is what is written on the rod itself. This was a factory mistake as there was never a model called the DL5. The tube however correctly states that this is a DL4. A letter of authenticity from Winston is included. Factory mistakes like this are unheard of and this rod is truly one of a kind. All serial numbers are matching and in the correct handwriting. Condition is used with a few minor handling marks and some slight scratching. However this rod is still gorgeous and shines beautifully. I do not know the entire history of this rod but I am the second owner ... moreand I was told it was purchased at North Fork Angler in 2003. I planned on keeping this rod until retirement as the value will only skyrocket due to the rarity of the DL4 line and the fact that factory mistakes never leave the Winston factory. But I must sell. R.L. Winston 15' Salmon Fly Tournament Casting Rod This Winston bamboo fly rod is 15' long and was used in and built to the specs of the American Casting Association's Salmon Fly Distance events. Commonly used at the Golden Gate Casting Club as well as other venues around the country/world for the SFD events. This is an extremely rare specialty rod. There is no reel seat on this rod as the line was laid on the ground to be released during the cast. For being a rod that is dated from the early 1950s. The rod is in great condition. There are some light nicks/scratches, nothing that seems too serious. The handle wraps are in great shape and the two pieces connect together nicely. Rare Winston Bamboo Spey Rod. One of 3 by Brackett ever made!
Up for your consideration is an extremely rare Winston bamboo spey rod built by Glenn Brackett when he was still at Winston. It is a 12'6" 7/8. 3 piece, one tip hex in a beautiful Arne Mason case. Glenn made three of these back in the nineties as prototypes however, as he explained, at that time the market would not bear the cost of production. This particular rod was originally slated for fiberglass ferrules, but minds were changed at that time and nickel silver was used. This rod has never been fished, It has been on display in my home only. I did line it and cast it once, a 480gr scandi line worked quite well. Still, due to the rarity and extreme collector value, I couldn't bring myself to actually risk damaging it. All sections are exact length and straight. Pair of Winston Fly Rods Fiberglass 7' 6" 4/5wt, 7' 3/4wt (Scott)
You are looking at a pair of Winston Fiberglass fly rods. They are priced as a pair but I will entertain offers. FIRST ROD: is a gem. 7' marked as 3/4wt. Later rod(1970s) Brown blank. Red wraps tipped in translucent white. Reel seat is aluminum cap and ring with cork filler; grip is half wells.Tungsten carbide stripper, larger, loop-style hook keeper. Rod was re-ferruled by Winston and so has a lifetime of wear left on it. Rod is in near mint condition(the varnish over the logo has yellowed and the grain of the cork grip has raised slightly) This rod is delicate. I have a 1990s vintage Scott F703 and this Winston has a more delicate tip. Quick action with soft tip makes this an ideal small stream/light tippets rod. SECOND ROD: a very early(1960s) San Francisco Winston fiberglass fly rod and the very lightest model they made at this time. ... moreRod is 7' 6" long. 2-Piece, 3oz and was designed to cast a WF-5. It also casts a DT-4 just as nicely. Rod is in mint condition. Brown blank ruby-red thread wraps with translucent white tipping; Winston's old"Trophy" logo; ring-style hook keeper; traditional half-wells grip; champagne. Down-locking Cal-Air aluminum reel seat; small tungsten or nickel silver stripping guide. Not sure if anyone's noticed but the reel seat is anodized to a color very near that of the S-Handled reels that Winston sold in the 1980s* Rod is in mint condition. There is no yellowing of the varnish whatsoever(see photos) Ferrules are in excellent condition with 3/16" gap remaining. Original red Winston rod bag; tube came with the rod but says"Winston Bamboo" on it. Rod is in such good condition that when I purchased it in the late 1990s it still had its length and physical weight(3oz) written on the grip from the factory. This is both a blessing and a curse: at the time of production Winston was a bamboo rod builder; fiberglass rods were not a priority; consequently Winston did not bother with writing model numbers.
