Hackle gone but supporting string remains. Yellow glass eyes(cracked but solid) Paint is in a hex pattern. South Bend stamped into propeller. Total length(minus back hook) is about 4" Body alone is about 2.625" long. Very old model- dates to approx. 1922. 2. Arbogast Jitterbug- wood body. Classic design. Vintage Arbogast WW-II Plastic Lip-Early Wire Hardware Jitterbug Fishing Lure RW For your consideration is a Vintage Arbogast WW-II Plastic Lip-Early Wire Hardware Jitterbug Fishing Lure RW The jitterbug was and continues to be probably the most famous of Arbogast's most popular lures-and its reputation is well-deserved-as a personal testament. I believe I caught more bass from a black jitterbug than any other lure I used when I was a youngster This one is one of the WW-II era jitterbugs. Coming in the red/white design These lures were made with the plastic lips as part of the war effort due to the shortage of metal materials normally used for the lip-these quickly became a sought after collectible as Arbogast went back to their normal metal lips shortly after the war ended Measures just about 2 3/4 inches. Excluding the red plastic lip, ... moreand is in the 5/8 oz size The lure has the early wire hangar hardware The lure has some nicks/scuffs and shows age lines with paint crazing-the right side has a mark below its eye and the top back side has a pointer on its back(see pictures 8& 9) This lures comes in the plastic body as Arbogast switched from wood to plastic sometime in the 1942-43 time frame The plastic red lip looks real nice with none of the"burn/grime" you see on many of the old plastic lip bugs The hardware is somewhat rusty/has oxidation You can clearly read"Fred Arbogast Akron. Vintage Fred Arbogast JITTERBUG - Frog Pattern 2 3/4" body 1947 patent
This vintage JITTERBUG lure was first patented by Fred Arbogast in 1938 and then he used an additional patent for a new hook holding device that is used on this lure. It is in good condition for its age. The body is 2 3/4" long and it is painted in a frog pattern.
