Vintage 1960's Martin 65 Fly Reel & South Bend Black Beauty Fly Rod 8.5 Feet
Up for auction is this gently used. Vintage 1960's Martin 65 single-action fly reel on an 8 ½-foot South Bend Black Beauty fly rod. The reel is Made in USA(Mohawk. NY) in very good condition. No signs of rust or corrosion anywhere. Just needs a little cleaning. I do see a couple of very light scratches on the black side of the reel but hardly noticeable. The fly rod is also in very good condition. I don't see a mark on it. Eyes are pristine. It's a“South Bend Black Beauty. 3685, medium action, graphite composite, 6/7 line weight. It does have a small yellow fly on the end of the line which I haven't bothered to remove. The Martin single-action fly reel is precision manufactured in the U.S.A. to give you years of trouble-free service. Frames are made of reinforced aluminum with extra strength. Machined hubs. Having said that.this piece is rather small with 2 3/4" side plates, and purchased from Lang's in 1999 or 2000. There were two Holzmans purchased that auction and the other had jeweled end caps. This is the Made in the USA version of Cortland's C-G POP 1 cassette fly reel before manufacturing shifted to Argentina under the STH name. Includes 3 clear nylon cassette extra spools(4 spools in total) cassette spools made in Argentina. Reel is very tough. Compression drag could stop a truck! Cassettes are very easy to change. Reel is currently set up for ... moreleft hand retrieve but can easily be changed to right-hand by removing the gear cover and reversing the clutch plate. Reel weighs 4.3 ounces and is 3 inches in diameter, 1 1/8 inches wide(not including handle or drag plate) spools are 2 1/2 inches in diameter, 3/4 inches wide and 5/8s of an inch deep. Most suitable for 3 to 5 weight rods/lines. Estimated maximum line capacity WF5F + 50yds of 20lb Dacron backing- a DT5F could be used but would either have to be used without much backing or cut in half. Reel and cassettes are in very good used condition. Magic marker line notation on several cassettes mentioned for the record. No case or reel/spool bags. VINTAGE PFLUEGER ATLAPAC 4/0 Deep Sea Fishing Reel
This reel belonged to my Uncle. It probably was purchased in the 1940's. Stored in the 1960's and not used since. It had old fashioned line on it. Not modern monofilament. That may give you a good idea of its age. Everything seems to work properly. Smoothly, and quietly. It has not been cleaned and oiled in decades. But. This reel is in very nice condition. Just a few pinpoint nicks on the edge of either sideplate. Retrieve is smooth. Levelwind works properly. Spool disengages/ engages without a hitch. The reel is clean. But not serviced. Comes with all paperwork, wrench, extra centrifugal weights and a spare handle nut. The box is nice and tight with great graphics and minimal edge wear. Drag, and anti-reverse-spring is strong This one has the spring release reel handle. And star drag style on the spool, along with easy"pop" release The reel comes lined with some nice colored line Line specs are: lb(yds) 8(275) 10(210) 12(180) Its gear ratio is 4.2:1 The reel is older vintage reel and used.
