Original Simms SU2A Motorcycle Car Truck Tractor Magneto Hit Miss Engine HOT!
This is an original Simms SU2A two cylinder magneto for an early car. Truck, tractor, or motorcycle. It is fresh from an early collector's estate where it lived on a shelf for many years. It has some age fatigue in the pot metal base but would still work the way it is. It mounts on a 2 inch square bolt pattern and the threads in the brass inserts are perfect. Both original leadout towers are present. It is a rather unusual magneto and is counter-clockwise rotation and turns over nicely with excellent magnetic pull. It has very minor wear in the bearings. The 16 tooth drive gear is loose on the armature shaft and could be tightened or replaced with the gear needed for your application. This magneto puts out a nice, fat, blue spark that is sure to run your tractor if it is set up properly. It could used a little fine cleaning as it has ... moresome black paint on it but that's the fun part. These original SIMMS magnetos are extremely tough to find in the wild or even at swap meets and they usually require several hundred dollars worth of repair work. This one isn't perfect but it cold be with some elbow grease. It's ready to go to work on a tractor or on the shelf for a spare. If you've been looking for one don't miss it. Serial Number 3505 dates this sextant to 1880. Troughton& Simms on the limb is engraved script. Large sextant measuring 12" 304.8mm) end-to-end on the limb and top-to-bottom is 9.75" 247.65mm) Original handle is virtually unchanged from the first know in 1820. and The unique double-frame is formed by two plates about 1.5 mm thick held tightly in place to the pillars secured with pin screws unlike later builds which used blade screws throughout. Note: a coat of black paint hand brushed perhaps over 100 years ago is evident. However. Graduations on the limb are very readable. Tangent and lock screws move freely as do all other moveable pieces. All threaded surfaces are clean an unscrew or tighten easily. Note. There are only two ocular pieces. Glass filters and lens are good none are broken and are very clear. Mirror block appears ... moreto have two marks but cannot feel even the slightest break. The two lenses are all that is with it. Original box is sturdy but has been varnished over and is now quite black with age. This instrument may be displayed as it is or is a candidate for restoration. Original lock. Hasps and handle are free of damage. Case has had repairs over the years as seen in pictures. A label affixed to the back of the case addressed to an officer of the SS Ulua. Vintage THEODOLITE By Cooke Troughton& Simms Ltd York This Theodolite is Serial No. VO13868 Age unknown but presumed to be mid 20th Century The theodolite is made mainly of brass finished in grey enamel. The scales are silvered and the adjustment knobs are plated. All contained in a fitted Mahogany case. Also in the case is a lens hood. Brush, oil bottle, spanner& plumbob. Provided but not shown is a lens cap and leather strap, there are a few small holes for equiment not present. The optics are a bit hazy. The levels, mirrors and scales are in good condition and the mechanics all function smoothly. The theodolite paintwork has a few small bits rubbed or chipped. Please scroll down under this description for additional views. Antique telescope circa 1860-1890 engraved on the brass"TROUGHTON& SIMMS LONDON" 45" overall length. A great looking piece that can be polished and displayed or used for a worthwhile restoration project. The only lens is in the eyepiece on the end. It looks like it has a little chip on the edge of the lens. There's a tiny tab that slides a brass cover over the lens to protect it. It is missing the brass-framed lens on the end. There are some age cracks in the wood- we think it is probably mahogany. A dent on the smallest diameter brass. The threading between the two brass piece seems worn and although it holds.
