Vintage ... moreHeddon Flyrod lure. The tiny Trout Fly Rod lure is a Plastic lure. The old Heddon is a tuff find in this good condition. The tiny crankait is only about 1 3/4" long. The old crankbaits lure has the Cream and Black eyes. The old Heddon Sonic is a unknown color code to me but sure the old heddon collector will know the code. The heddon crankbait is a Green Back, Pinkish under the Cream and Black eyes with a under chin line tie. The flyrod size sonic Heddon shows very well and should clean up a bit better but will leave that to the bidder, I am out of cleaner again. It would be hard to up grade this tiny heddon, slick lure. The heddon bait has a top fin and a cup type fin on the belly like the tiny fly rod punkinseed lures have. Both have been used but likely in some attic because of better age& better condition as I found them. The one with NO EYE measures 3 inches. This one is known as"OLE BLACK JOE. It retains its chrome Butt Pin. it also has the old fashioned tie line addition. MY Opinion is that this is the sweetest of the two. The one with unbroken Glass Eyes is also known as a Best Ever"OLE BLACK JOE. It also has its chrome pin. There is a most interesting history on these Indiana-Ohio fishing lures. Mr. Carter obtained his patents in about 1919. It is suspected his later"partner" Mr. Dunkleberger, was responsible for including glass eyes into these Antique lures. YOU decide. Selling this beautiful Heddon 2 piece fiber glass fly rod. This rod is very near mint and if I cleaned the cork handle you would never know it was used. It comes with sack and the tube is clearly stamped on the end. The rod is clearly marked Heddon Pal#8457 Mark IV 81/2" Las Tips ActionC-HCH GBF. It has agate eyes that are in very good condition. There are a couple of spots of varnish that need a little attention(see pic. The cork handle is in very good condition. Historically Significant Heddon 4 hook Slopenose 1904
This Historically Significant lure is one of the best and very rare. 4 5/8 in wooden body length. Dowagiac No.2 Slopenose Fishing Lure" was made by the James Heddon& Son Company of Dowagaic, Michigan. The circa is 1904 and came out of the advanced collection last year. Here is a few words written about the lure. If you google_Heddon slopenose translucent_you can read the full article and see the close ups. The lure up for auction is the first lure shown with 6 pictures, not the one in the box. When I first saw this Heddon lure. I assumed there was a problem because the collar didn't have what I wrongly assumed to be normal dark red paint. Turns out many of the early slopenose lures had thin, translucent red paint on the collar and it is normal. The other color variation would be an orange color and the more'normal' dark ... morelipstick red with the paint slopped over onto the body of the lure. In conversations with a collector who has a number of the early slopenose lures as well as the rim less cup models, I was told that the paint is not always slopped over on to the body and that is the case with this lure.The collar has one pin on the underside of the lure. The other identifying paint trait is the lack of varnish on the stark all white body. Which is normal prior to the time when varnish was applied about c. 1905. The cups are rimmed. With gold wash as is the tail cap. The nose, hook, and tail eye-screw hardware is brass. The nose line tie is circular and small, not tear drop shaped as is found on later lures. This is a Heddon giant lure to display. The lure is 22' long(not including the hooks) and is in great shape except for a couple small dings here and there from being stored in a drawer. Heddon Crazy Crawler XBW. The lure has a large worm burn on the back. The worm burn is the only real damage to the lure. The steel wings are in very good condition along with the hardware on the bottom.
