I also have ... morea copy of the Patent Applications(2207425) dated December 17, 1938, 2261867) dated September 24, 1940, and(2429339) dated November 7, 1945 by Fred A. Arbogast in Akron Ohio. I could see all three of the patent numbers on the bottom of the metal part of the lure with a jewelers lens so I'm guessing it was made and sold in the time period 1946-1948. I have the original Box. The catalog that came in the box and the green with black frog pattern lure. Nothing like it on ebay. I estimated it would sell for at least $150.00 based on google data I looked at. I'm going to list it today at $75.00 auction. This is one is especially rare because it was a very limited production run of the JOINTED JITTERBUG. C opies of all three patents will be shipped to the winning bidder.

Series#5502. Measuring 4-3/4" in length. It has L-rig belly hardware, drop loop tail hardware and marked diving lip that reads HEDDON'S GAME FISHER in script writing. There are age lines in the paint, a bit of paint chipping around the tail hook as well as a couple of specks of varnish chipping. It comes in its original, correctly marked up-leaping bass box that is solid and complete but has some staining and wear. It is marked on both ends with the series number. Also note the box bottom has a'Complete Color Chart' printed on it. It is my pleasure to offer at auction an Extremely Nice and Exceedingly Rare CIRCA 1940 HEDDON NO.44"DELUXE" DOUBLE-BUILT CUSTOM 7 FT. SPLIT BAMBOO BIG GAME"SPECIFICATION" ROD SET IN HEDDON'S ORIGINAL CUSTOM CARRYING CASE. When you've been selling Heddon bamboo rods for as long as I have. You can sometimes get lulled into thinking you've seen about all there is to see from this company. Then something like this comes along. Without question, one of the rarest items from James Heddon's Sons that I've come across in some time. This is a Custom SET of big game"Specification rods" Both an Official 9 oz. and an Official 12 oz. tip section that share a single detachable handle) made sometime just before WWII and would be one of the most powerful rods ever built by Heddon. These"Double-Built" ... moremodels were for tuna, tarpon, albacore, swordfish and other big game species. This SET never appeared in any Heddon catalog, only the individual listing for the No.44"Deluxe" itself(with a single tip section) It would have been a custom factory special order, supplied to someone into professional big game sportfishing and it would have been quite expensive. At least one other set exists that I know of, although I've only read of it and have never even seen a photo. Because both tip sections are equipped with 5 guides, this is considered a"Catalina" version of the No.44(there was also an"Atlantic" version with doubled guides) and, as an"Official Specification Rod" conformed to the regulations and specifications of the Catalina Tuna Club. The Catalina Tuna Club was founded in 1898. Just after the first blue-fin tuna was caught with a rod and reel, a feat considered impossible at the time. Up until then, fishermen that had been using handlines and nets were literally slaughtering the gamefish all along the Southern California coast in staggering numbers. Rare Heddon #11 9' 2F bamboo Fly Rod
This is a very nice Heddon#11 made for Nelson Hardware. Somewhat scarce and it has a desirable 2F heddon trout taper. It's 9' with one tip which is about an inch short which does not affect the action of this rod. A great fishing rod or collecting piece. Ferrules are good. No clicks, very nice varnish, cork and reelseat, guides and tip top. Comes with nice cloth bag.

This is a very nice post classic period Heddon Blue Waters bamboo fly rod. A rod of exceptional value. Made from handsplit bamboo. Browntone" finish. Screw-type locking type reel seat with sliding hood. Solid cork grip. Keeper fly ring. Perfection guides and tip tops. Nickle silver ferrules. Handsomely wound in atractive gold and black jasper. In original cloth bag and waterproof aluminium case. Three part construction and extra tip. This one is 9' 2 1/2 f. A bass- trout taper. All the wraps are very good, Varnish is very good, Ferrules all very good with no clicking at all. You can clean the cork if you want to. Would make an excellent streamer, steelhead, or bass rod. or to addition to the Heddon collection.

Early Heddon No. 45 Casting Reel, Circa 1918-19
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE Heddon No. 45 Casting Reel Here is a Heddon No. 45 non-level winding reel. Only made in 1918-19, according to the Heddon Legacy book. The reel shows wear and scratches and pitting on the chrome plating over the take-apart tubular frame. The No. 2 foot and side plates appear to be made of nickel silver. It's a nice, tight reel that could use some lube. Cranks smoothly and the click works well. Heddon got involved in reels after they purchased the tooling from B.F. Meek and Sons in 1916 and also hired their Chief Reel Designer. William Carter, Jr. This reel has the Carter patents on the tail plate, and the counterbalanced handle is similar to other Meek handles that I have seen, except that it has slanted knurling. Vintage 1-piece Heddon fishing rod / fishing pole
This listing is for a vintage Heddon one-piece fishing rod. It is used/pre-owned. It is clearly marked" HEDDON" I see no model number or year indicated. I am not a fishing enthusiast or collector. I am describing this item the best I can from what I see. The shaft of the rod appears to be made of graphite. The handle. Both before and just after the reel area, feels like cork to me. I see a couple splits to the cork positioned in front of the reel area but there is no cork actually missing anywhere. The integrity of the rod still appears to be fine. This rod measures nearly 61 inches from tip to handle bottom. The winner must supply their own reel, fishing line, bobbers, weights, hooks, lures, etc. This rod saw typical use in its day. There is wear to the factory brown paint at the reel area on both the top and bottom. The cork areas ... moreof the pole look to be in fair condition overall while the shaft is in very good condition. TERMS OF SALE: U.S. shipping only. up for auction is a great item for the fishing collector enthusiast. A Heddon"Premier" fly rod#115- 8 1/2' 2- F- HDH or E. The rod is a 3 piece with extra tip(repairs made see penny area in photos) It is in GOOD condition, comes in the cloth case and aluminum tube. Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook- Michael Sinclair says the premier was made in 1948 thru 1954. This rod belonged to my Grandfather and in my opinion appears to have little wear on it, the cork handle has no chunks or flaking on it, it does have a darker color on it, possibly hand oils, showing some signs of use. The varnish on the rob sections are in great condition, no cracking or chips. The line eyes appear in my opinion to be secure and original. the extra tip section does appear to have been professional repaired, both tip sections are the same length, repair ... moreis around penny in photos. 1936-1938 HEDDON #400 "Chieftain" 6' Split Bamboo Bait Casting Rod With Heddon
It's my pleasure to offer at auction a rather Nice 1936-1938 HEDDON NO.400"CHIEFTAIN" 6 FT. 2-PIECE SPLIT BAMBOO"LIGHT ACTION" BAIT CASTING ROD WITH PERIOD CLOTH BAG. First introduced by Heddon as"The No.4 Rod" in 1913, named the"Chieftain" in 1924 and would be redesignated the No.400 in 1933. It's one of the few models from James Heddon's Sons to sell continuously through 1952, a testimony to its popularity. Because this example is equipped with three guides on the tip section(standard for this model by 1936) and carries the Classic era rodshaft markings(last used in 1938) we know it was only built in 1936 to 1938. I've added a photo of the original listing from Heddon's 1937 catalog. Heddon's Cleo Hanley has handwritten"Heddon" diagonally along three flats and"400" ... moreon one flat, just above the winding check. The reel seat is stamped with the correct"PAT. marking. Built with high-grade browntone Tonkin cane on a"light action" 1 ferrule and comes equipped with full orange agate guides& tip top, high-quality serrated ferrules, nickel-silver winding check, patented screw-locking"Hold-Tite" reel seat with attached trigger, solid cork tournament grip& foregrip and wound in maroon silk with green& orange trim. Rod is in solid Fine condition for these, showing light to moderate wear. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. Both sections are the correct length, with the tip having a light set. Original varnish and rodshaft markings are pristine. The wraps are all solid and complete. All guides, tip top, ferrules and winding check are in good condition. Solid cork grip and foregrip show some wear, with a moderate nick out of the base of the foregrip, but remain in good shape overall. Reel seat works perfectly, in excellent condition. The bamboo itself appears to be in it's original condition as are the red and black wraps. This has the detailed and highly ornamented Nickel Silver hardware with Yellow AGATE guides and tip-top. This is the correct era Heddon rod bag with blue and white sticker label. The Heddon rod tube is not original to this particular rod. This is a great piece of Heddon history with a loose tip that will need to be re-secured prior to any use. ROD MARKINGS: The rod is marked DOWAGIAC with the BASS DECAL. The reel seat areas read: Heddon's Made in U.S.A. The age is known to be from the 1925-1926 era. The Rod bag has the Blue& White sticker decal correctly marked 10 5 Ft. The rod tube has the Heddon label as seen below. Numbers on the tube are not readable. Photos are mostly flash-off. Some do have flash-on and tend to look darker.
