This reel has had a new drum piece replaced by a retired ... moremaster reel craftsman from England that used to work for Hardy Bros. It has two large ebonite tapered handles and a brass ribbed foot which is attached to the frame with four brass screws. This reel also has an on/off casting/ratchet lever located on the side of the frame and a knurled drag adjustment knob located in the center of the drum. It is mechanically sound throughout and the drum spins very freely and true. Hardy’s name. Reel name and patent number 24245 is stamped on the back of the cage. In addition. There is an oval silver plate attached to the back of the reel with the inscription“Made For Manton and Co. Calcutta” Circa mid 1930’s making this reel approximately 75 years old! All of the mechanical and functional aspects are in very good condition and the reel feels and sounds very smooth. There are no bent or warped parts. There are some abrasions and scratches on this item(as shown in pictures) Someone has scratched their initials(NFM" NFFM" and what looks like"VIFF" into 3 interior sections on the reel(not visible when reel is operationally assembled) and 2 exterior areas(where it is mostly visible under the right light) Please refer to the pictures(I have documented these 5 areas) The black paint on the interior of the spool is worn and there are several scratches including one of the initialed areas(refer to photo) The top of the drag adjustment knob has 2 small nicks. The other 2 interior areas where the initials occur are approximately 1 inch from the exposed bearings on both sides of the body of the reel. The interior spool side is where it appears to have the"VIFF" There is also the outline of what appears to be some sticker that has fallen off(located next to the exposed bearings in photo) The final areas are on the exterior front and back face of the reel and I did not notice them until I had the reel under the perfect light(I owned this reel for years without seeing this) Also. There is an abrasion on the frame at the bottom of the reel(next to the bottom post) If you are considering buying this reel then you are most likely a serious angler and or collector so please study ALL pictures very closely with the zoom function. All of the mechanical and functional aspects are in very good condition and the reel feels and sounds very smooth. There are no bent or warped parts. There are some abrasions and scratches on this item(as shown in pictures) Someone has scratched their initials(NFM" NFFM" and what looks like"VIFF" into 3 interior sections on the reel(not visible when reel is operationally assembled) and 2 exterior areas(where it is mostly visible under the right light) Please refer to the pictures(I have documented these 5 areas) The black paint on the interior of the spool is worn and there are several scratches including one of the initialed areas(refer to photo) The top of the drag adjustment knob has 2 small nicks. The other 2 interior areas where the initials occur are approximately 1 inch from the exposed bearings on both sides of the body of the reel. The interior spool side is where it appears to have the"VIFF" There is also the outline of what appears to be some sticker that has fallen off(located next to the exposed bearings in photo) The final areas are on the exterior front and back face of the reel and I did not notice them until I had the reel under the perfect light(I owned this reel for years without seeing this) Also. You are viewing/ bidding on a Hardy Brothers Fly Reel. The model is The St. John. This reel was never used. And was in my grandfather's reel cabinet for many years. It is in near perfect condition with the exception of a couple small scratches; one near the spool release and a couple very small on the front of the line guard area. There are also a couple small smudges on the front of the reel. These probably came from taking in and out of the cabinet. This reel was purchased in the early 1980's to fish for Atlantic Salmon. This would make a very nice addition to any collection, and would perhaps would make an excellent trout/ salmon reel. I would be happy to provide more photos or answer any questions. I would classify this reel as being in very good condition cosmetically with some typical rim wear, small scuffs/scrapes here and there and finish dulling, but relatively light compared to most used reels of this vintage. Mechanically the reel is very sound and tight- no spool wobble. Includes original Hardy blue and cream, zippered, padded reel case in reasonably good condition(PERFECT 3 3/8" printed in ball-point ink on side of case) and original Hardy instruction leaflet which reads in part: The'Perfect' Reel is made from high duty hiduminium alloy in three main parts- the line drum. Frame and revolving plate- the'Perfect' is machined to extremely close tolerances and is fitted with ball bearings which make it almost frictionless. Spool is 2 and 7/8 inches in diameter by 7/8 of an inch wide. I would classify this spool as being in very good condition with minimal surface dulling or rim wear. Up for sale we have a vintage 1929 Hardy palakona regal the Houghton rod 3 piece with 2 tips. Tips are in good shape one has professional repair. Varnish shows no checking and rod was hardly used by my grandad. All rings and raps are in great shape. On base metal stamped e17436 which dates rod from 1929. The rod measures 10 foot 2 inches. including the handle) in overall length. The rod appears to be straight. But unfortunately, the top section has been broken at some point and the top ring re-attached, it is missing approximately 6 inches in length. The fittings and reel seat to the butt section are in alloy. The butt and top ring are agate lined. It has a suction joint. Which is a good snug fit and has retained much of its' original finish. The burgundy whipping is in good order, however, there is some discolouration to the whipping around the rings and joint. Offered is a box of six large Hardy Brothers salmon dry flies of the La Branche Pink Lady pattern. Tied in the collaboration of the famous early 20th Century American fly fishermen/fly tyers Edward Ringwood Hewitt(1866-1957) and George Michel Lucien La Branche(1875- From A Fly Fishing History by Dr. Andrew N. Herd: After Wood. The focus of salmon fishing development moved to America. Three men were to pioneer a new breakthrough: Hewitt, La Branche and Monell. Their inspiration came from none other than Theodore Gordon, who tied dry flies for salmon some time before 1903. Although La Branche proved that salmon would take just about any dry fly, he developed a special series ... moreof palmer hackled flies for the purpose, which rode high on their hackle points. LaBranche was later to compare the patterns to bottle brushes. And the trio settled on four patterns: the Colonel Monell, Soldier Palmer, Pink Lady Palmer, and the Mole. Hardy St. George 3 3/8 inch w/original box. Excellent finish with intact original agate line guide. Has 3 paint blemishes but no rub marks or scratches of any kind. Spool has some paint loss on interior of the spool due to the oil on the silk line know to cause this due to long period of no use(Shown in last photo) Desirable unaltered ribbed brass foot and bushings. Ultra smooth reel with no play or wobble whatsoever. Original box has"3 3/8" ST. GEORGE" labels on side and top. All corners are in nice condition and the box. Overall, is in very good condition with original padding. Although this is a 2 screw latch 50's model, it is a very desireable reel for either collecting and or using. Works beautifully weight-wise and all else on a fine HDH lined bamboo rod(DT6F)

here is a fantastic bfp in what i can only say is in the best working order i have ever seen one of these reels. the spindle and cog i think may have been refitted by hardy at some point but this benefits the reel as its like new to use the. check works great. it has its original alloy foot that has the smallest of filling to one end. Gold Medal? Someone has done an incredible job restoring this amazing Hardy's Steel Centre Cane Salmon spey rod. It is marked"The Hi-Regan" on the butt plate- Hi Regan was the pen name of Captain John Joseph Dunne(1837-1910) an Irishman who wrote a book about fly fishing in the 1800's. Not sure but this may be one of Hardy's Gold Medal line of spey rods since it has the steel center core. Rod measures 16 feet assembled(using the longer tip- one is shortened) Circa 1910-20. Note the ... morequality of the heavy duty lockfast joint ferrules. The wraps, and the finish. It has a nice decorative ferrule stopper. It is engraved"C MCARTHER" on the band just below the blank. Comes in the original marked Hardy's bag. This great collectible and wallhanger will be mailed in a heavy cardboard carptet tube for maximum protection! Unfortunately. Up for auction from my personal collection is this Hardy' Uniqua' 4 inch Salmon Reel. A wonderful reel to use or a great item for the serious collector. This is truely an awesome fly reel and requires very little narrative! It is a Hardy classic made of quality materials. Reel will last you for as long as you like and will never let you down. Condition excellent. Reel comes with good quality backing. Check STRONG and LOUD(will inform anglers around that contact has been made! The reel is able to hold up to a#10/11 line. They grow in almost any soil, needing little water plus they resist pests and disease. With a rapid growth rate, the Empress Tree can reach 50 feet in height with an equal spread in an open landscape. Most trees are seen 30 to 40 feet tall and wide.
