Vintage New-Old-Stock 1951 Delta Rockwell 17" Drill Press
For sale is a New-Old-Stock 1951 Delta 17" drill press. I purchased this from the Grandson of the original owner who had inherited it. This drill press was stored in his Grandfather garage for 62 years and never setup and operated. The"As-found condition photo" links below show the condition of the drill press when I purchased it and there is no dought in my mind that this drill press was never put in to service. Since most of the drill press was stored in the open air some refurbishment was need to put it into service. As noted above this is a 1951 Delta 17" drill press and its m odel number 17-210. This is the slow speed model with 5 speeds of 385. 600, 935, 1450 and 2240 RPM. It has the large production table, a MT-2 spindle nose and a Jacobs 6A chuck. The drill press has a single phase. 3/4 HP Delta capacitor start ... moremotor that will run on 110 or 220 volts and is currently wired to run from a standard 120 volt wall plug. The drill press has been completely disassembled and the rust removed from the bare metal surfaces. Dried oil& grease removed, and about 90% of the rust removed from the painted surfaces. The original finish was retained with all its faults and refinished with two coats of matte clear. So the drill press has a lot of charactor, so you will see some bare metal and some rust along with the gray paint under the clear finish. The work table has some light pitting and the Jacobs chuck sleeve also has a little pitting. The column has has some scratches, but no noticable pitting. The pot-metal knobs and handles have some bubbling under the chrome plating. All 4 bearings in the drill press spindle were replaced since the factory install bearings had dried out and were unusable. The motor bearings were good and surprisingly the cord was also good. A new belt was also provided. This is a nice drill press and you won't be disappointed. If you would like to inspect the drill press before biding or making an offer drop me an email to arange a time to come kick the tires. PS the c

DELTA ROCKWELL 17" DRILL PRESS UPPER POWER HEAD SPINDLE ASSEMBLY - VINTAGE
Delta 17" drill press upper power head/ spindle assembly. I believe this came off a drill press manufactured in the mid to late 1960's. The manual which came with it is dated 1966. Drill press serial number is SN# 119-4043. The power head is in good overall condition with no broken or cracked parts. One small machine screw is missing holding the tightening lever onto its splines shaft that adjusts the tension holding the power head onto the drill presses post/ column. This is on the left side of the power head if looking at its front. All parts a functioning very well. The spring return on the return stroke is smooth and even. Spindle bearings are in very good shape and run freely. The spindle is true and the chuck runs with any run out. Comes with Jacobs chuck number#633 with a 1/2" capacity, and a Jacobs#3 series chuck key. ... moreIncluded also is the stepped pulley for the spindle though the largest pulley has two very slight dents in the upper rim of the pulley one might be able to file these out. Only two bolts on the rear motor mounting plate are with it. I don't have the motor, upper guard, or the other stepped pulley. Drill press mounts on a 2-3/4" column or post. The item will be well packed to insure safe delivery. $2 extra will insure the item for $300. Please wait for an invoice before paying. Will ship Fed Ex or UPS.

Quill / Spindle assembly for vintage Delta 17" Drill Press, JT nose with chuck
Quill and Spindle assembly with Jacobs chuck for a vintage Delta 17" drill press. I bought this as spare parts but now have whole spare drill presses. I have restored a couple of these and this assembly seems to me to be in serviceable condition. It could certainly benefit from cleaning and probably the bearings should be changed but that said it turns quite smoothly likely due to lots of old grease inside and and a lack of gritty dirt or other contamination. As you can see this has the Jacobs Taper spindle nose instead of the extended Morse taper that is seen on these more often. For those of us fixing these up for mainly woodworking in non industrial settings the JT nose is the more desirable. Not requiring any adapter with a normal chuck to use regular drill bits. So here you have the whole assembly from the upper part of the spindle(no ... morenut on top) to a Jacobs chuck that seems in decent condition. As seen in the photos there are some marks from some hard use or other on the end of the chuck but the jaws themselves do not seem badly worn. You can turn the chuck by hand but is somewhat stiff from general dirtiness I think. There is no damage I can see to the teeth on the outside of the quill. With this whole assembly one could keep an original quill with the Morse, if desired and change out the whole thing as described in the original manuals for these drills
