This listing is for two NOS Western Electric 717A radio vacuum tubes. These were purchased by the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II. These unusual tubes. Sometimes referred to as"mushroom" or"doorknob" tubes were developed for use in radio receivers operating at VHF frequencies. They were later used in some commercial FM radio receivers. These tubes are triodes with octal bases. The shape of the tube resulted from need to keep internal leads and dimensions as small as possible. I tested these tubes on my Knight tube tester. With the results shown in the last two photos. These tubes will be shipped in their original boxes which are shown in some of the photos. Motorola Maxar 50 VHF-High-Band mobile radio. Under-the-dash mount, 148-155 MHz( band split(not quite sure of the exact band split) Two(2) frequency crystal controlled radio, comes with one(1) single transmit and receive crystals on 153.500 MHz. Great for Amatuer APRS! Could be converted to the 144-148 MHz Amateur Band for APRS on 144.39 MHz. THis radio has a bandwidth of 1 MHz. So it will not cover theentire 2 meter band. Additionally, rgus radiuo was order at 153.500 MHz, so retuneing this radio to the APRS frequency of 144.39 MHz is a move of over 9 MHz, so some of the tuning coils may not peak, but run out of the coil. This would require cangeing some surface mount capacitors, so the proper de-soldering and soldering tolls are highly recommended. This is a Maxon 4150 mobile VHF radio. This same radio was sold by GE under the Monogram label. This radio spent it's life as a base radio in a school office. It powers on and is in very good condition. I do not know what frequencies are programmed in the radio. I believe this radio is for wide-band operation and is not narrowband capable. Vintage ALLIED LINCOLN 2551 VHF FM Public Services Tube Radio Monitoradio
So here's an odd tube radio I had to ask the experts at the Antique Radio forums about. This is a Lincoln 2551 public services monitor. Billed as an FM receiver it actually gets radio bands for the police. Fire and emergency services. It's very similar to the Regency Monitoradio except the guys over at Antique Radios forums believe this one to have been made by Allied. Perhaps in the early 60s but I'm not positive. This one has been tested and doesn't appear to work. No static or noise. I do see some of the tubes lighting up on the inside. Opening the back revealed that they are RCA brand. See photos for detail. Exterior condition is overall excellent with no cracks or breaks. There are a couple scratches on the very top but overall it looks great. Still tunes and changes volume fine. The only reason I am selling the radio is I tested for my Technician and General licenses and then purchased another radio. The front panel lights were recently replaced and are like new. Note that the R7100 has a reputation of running hot when it is powered off the wall. I suggest running the radio using the 13.8V connector and the radio runs very cool. The radio is sold as-is, but is guaranteed to be fully functional at receipt. The radio will be lovingly packaged and insured for shipping. It has been used in a non-smoking house.
