RARE Grange League Federation ( GLF ) antique bakelite post-war AM/FM radio
RARE(often used on eBay. Usually not accurately, but truly is in this case) AM/ FM immediate post-war(~1948) radio manufactured for GLF(Grange League Federation) an upstate NY farm co-operative. model F-770 manufactured by North American Phillips. These sets were custom built for the Grange League Federation and were only available through their organization. They were apparently never sold to the general public with the GLF logo on them. The radio currently pulls in a few stations but needs to be recapped(or more? for good listening. Green tuning eye(6E5? not working but I did not try to do any electronic repairs. No cracks. Offering an extremely well preserved Philco Transitone Tube Radio in an attractive color of sage green. It measures 10 1/2" length) x 6" x 5 1/2" and when the wiring. Also in super nice condition, is plugged into the electrical outlet the unit powers up, humming loudly, with the internal lights visible which I've attempted to show in pic.3. It's no surprise to me that I'm unable to tune in a station as I own a Bose with very limited access to AM stations in my area. Philco Model 70 Super Heterodyne 7 This radio has not been tested beyond plugging it in. When pluged in all of the tubes had a light glow as did the bulb for the tuner. The radio made a out of tune sound and did not smoke or smell in any way. This is the extent of my knowledge of this type of instrument so if you have any other questions please feel free to contact us. The grill cover is in good condition. Free of rips or tears. The original knobs are on the radio. The wood will benefit from a good cleaning and some polish but there again this is not my normal line. This radio is ready for restoration or display as is. The radio was electronically restored to include the following: 1) Three new electrolytic capacitors 2) Replacement of the old paper/wax capacitors. 3) Two NOS tubes- 12SJ7 and 12SQ7 4) Two out of tolerance resistors were replaced. 5) Extra long power cord installed. 6) The old yellowed dial cover face was replaced. 7) A new#47 pilot light was installed. The pilot light is the small red circle under the" ZENITH" name. 8) A new two tone speaker grill cloth was installed. 9) The blades on the tuning condenser were cleaned. 10) A drop of oil was added to the bearings on the tuning shaft. 11) The volume control was given a shot of electronic cleaner. Art Deco 1947 Vintage Radio Templetone "TEMPLE" G-418 Custom Chrome Finish WOW!
1947/48 Templeton"Temple" Model G-418 Heterodyne with an amazing chrome finish that gives it a mirror shine as you can easily see in the photos. As the Art Deco craze was winding down and the the mid-century Modernist movement was gearing up. This classic piece has elements of both. I especially like the Art Deco styling of the dial face. Powers up nice and quickly but I only get a loud buzz. I am pretty sure that one or two of the tubes are shot. The back looks brand new so I am guessing it's a correct aftermarket replacement. Cord is a bit stiff but intact. A qualified technician should assess this equipment first to ensure safe operation. Just gorgeous- I love this old radio. This is just too cool! Telefunken Deutschland Gavotte 55 tube radio. This is the tabletop model with push buttons. It has a great looking wooden case. This is a nice looking German made radio. This radio currently does not work and would be for parts. Repair or restoration. It is a sizeable piece measuring 19 x 13 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches. It is in good overall cosmetic condition. There are a few dings and nicks to the wood as you can see in the photo. There are also a few spots on the top of the radio that appear to be where tape or something was at some point. This is probably easily cleaned up, I have left as is. You can see this in the photo. Also, there are a few chips in the white plastic trim on the front of the radio. Please see pics. This auction is for a restored antique or vintage 1948 Philco'Hippo' bakelite tube radio. Model 48-460. From a time when radio truly was king. And from a name that is instantly recognized as a classic in American radio history, this fabulous Philco set measures 7 3/4" tall X 12" wide. This is a restored and working radio ready to play. Display, and enjoy for years to come. No shortcuts or quick fixes. ~ Chassis& Electrical ~ This strong performing 6 tube Philco chassis has had All paper. All wax. And All electrolytic capacitors replaced. All out of tolerance resistors were replaced. And every tube was tested and replaced if found to be weak. The volume potentiometer was then cleaned internally and is free of any annoying scratching or crackling sounds. All moving parts including tuning wheels were checked, cleaned, and ... morelubricated as needed for smooth and reliable operation without sticking. A new line cord has also been added to replace the unsafe and stiff original. Lastly, the signal strength was aligned, adjusted, and the radio is then bench tested(played) for a minimum of 48 hours to ensure reliability and peak performance. As a result of this entire process, the set sounds very warm, clear, and plays strongly without hum. ~ Cabinet ~ This polished bakelite cabinet is a wonderfully rich chocolate color with no cracks. Breaks, or hidden repairs and has a gorgeous mirror-like reflective quality. Some light scratching here and there from use and display from years gone by. A couple of very fine'indents' on the front lip. Barely noticeable but mentioned here in fairness. In my opinion. Philco produced some of the most beautiful bakelite radio cabinets with absolutely wonderful deep swirling and patterning with each one being unique from the next. 1938 Sentinel Bakelite Battery Radio
Although the batteries used in these are no longer available. One can purchase a“battery eliminator” fairly inexpensively that reduces household current to the proper level, or have a radio shop convert the chassis to 120V AC. Since some collectors specialize in these sets, I have left this one original as I don’t often see them with perfect cases and the original battery connector cable as this one has. This radio was part of a large collection of vintage radios I acquired from the estate of my friend who was a master radio technician for over 70 years. Most of these had been restored electronically before he stored them. But since I have no equipment to test this one with, it is sold untested and as is. The tubes are all present and the chassis is clean and corrosion-free. The dial on this model is unlike any I have seen on other radios ... moreof this vintage. With a red band that moves across the yellow background as the tuning knob is turned. The radio has its original knobs, dial, and original hardboard back which has a small section missing at the top and has been taped due to creasing. The bakelite cabinet is relatively small with dimensions of 11"W x 7"H x 6"D. It was closely inspected on all sides and found to be completely free of cracks. There are some light marks and very superficial scratches present that will come out easily. This radio will be carefully encased in bubble-wrap and sent with an outer layer of soft foam.
