This fantastic Eli Tait model totem pole features the classic Good Luck Totem imagery of a bald eagle. Flipped over salmon, and a speckled bear. Signed on the back"Eli Tait, Metlakatla, Alaska" and"Good Luck Totem, Eagle, Salmon, Bear" This totem is an unusual variant with blue paint around the eyes of the eagle and the bear. The totem measures 7.5" tall, 2.5" wide, and 2.5" deep. It does not have a US Indian Arts and Crafts Board stamp on the bottom of the alder round, meaning it likely predates 1935. For auction is this exquisite and stunning example of an AUTHENTIC and SCARCE. U. S. Civil War period. Block" I" Confederate INFANTRY UNIFORM BUTTON manufactured in"Limerick" Ireland by" P. TAIT& CO. LIMERICK" I acquired this button from an old man who befriended me nearly 30 years ago. The man told me it belonged to his great-grandfather who fought for the Confederate States of America(CSA) during the U. S. Civil War. The man's family immigrated to America and settled in Rosehill. located approximately 40 miles northwest of Houston) Texas in 1841. I was told. After the Civil War ended the great-grandfather returned to his family farm in Texas whereupon the family kept his uniform inside a chest filled with his service records, equipment and treasured mementos for many years. After many years; sometime ... morein the early 1900's, the family eventually divided up their relative's keepsake mementos amongst the members of their family. This button was one of several items the old man received and kept in his possession. This button is in incredible condition for being over 150 years old. PLEASE NOTE; THIS IS NOT A DUG RELIC AND/OR SO CALLED EXCAVATED BUTTON. OTHER THEN WHEN IT WAS ORIGINALLY WORN IN SERVICE. THIS BUTTON HAS NEVER BEEN EXPOSED TO THE OUTSIDE WEATHER AND ELEMENTS AS IT HAS ALWAYS REMAINED PROTECTED AND TREASURED. The button has a domed shape and measures approximately.75" in diameter. It appears to be made out of brass or copper as the metal is not magnetic. The back of the button has what I believe is referred to as a"floating shank" so the button could be sewn to the garment. Signed Vintage Carl Tait Valentine Day Handkerchief Hankie Never Used w/Label
This is a beautiful artist signed. Carl Tait, vintage Valentine's Day hankie, with it's original foil label still attached in one of it's corners, pristine unused condition(never washed or laundered)very colorful with no fading or issues! The hems are hand-rolled, per the label, which also says the fabric is made from Irish linen. The hankie is approx. 14" by 14" square. I see no holes, stains or problems-as pristine an example as you will find and so rare to see the original foil label still in place. Obviously stored safely away from the elements all these years, this mid-century retro hankie will make a very fabulous addition for the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday or vintage hankie collection! SUPER RARE lightweight aluminum Balloon Corps binoculars. Personally attributable, and connected with a famous balloon action in the Meuse River sector, celebrated by the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton! 25-power U.S. Balloon Corps binoculars made by Petit of Paris. 22 inches fully extended, in original case, belonging to Lt. Ronald Tait, 12th Balloon Coy. A.E.F. He was captured in his observation balloon with his oberver Lt. Hinman on 12 September 1918 on the Meuse. The Germans allowed him to scribble a note during his interrogation in POW camp which was dropped behind Allied lines by a German pilot. Case and binoculars are in good condition. No straps survived. These optics were purchased directly from the Tait family. As copies of email correspondence will attest. Archibald Campbell Tait(1811-1882) Archbishop of Canterbury. A leader of the anti- Oxford Movement forces. Autograph Letter Signed. 4 pages 8vo, Shane’s Castle, Antrim, Ireland, Sept. 13, 1877 to Sir William. Yr letter has followed me from place to place. I hear a high character of Mr. Bagot from many quarters, and your letter, I need not say, is very important. The living of Denton is of necessity well conferred on a fellow or ex fellow of Merton College Oxford. I have been much urged to appoint an ex fellow who holds one of the college livings which he wd. Vacate and who has long served the college as tutor. We have been making a very pleasant tour in Ireland. Very good, signed"A.C. Cantaur, the Cantaur the way all Archbishops of Canterbury would sign. An interesting letter concerning whom to appoint to a position. His letters are ... morescarce, especially on any kind of church matters. In 1842. Tait became an undistinguished but useful successor to Arnold as headmaster of Rugby School(one of his pupils was Lewis Carroll) and a serious illness in 1848, the first of many, led him to welcome the comparative leisure that followed upon his appointment to the deanery of Carlisle in 1849. His life there, however, was one of no little activity; he served on the University Commission, he restored his cathedral, and he did much excellent pastoral work. There, too, he suffered the great sorrow of his life. He had married Catharine Spooner at Rugby in 1843. In 1856, within five weeks, five of their children died due to virulent scarlet fever. Not long afterwards, he was consecrated Bishop of London on 22 November 1856, as successor to Charles James Blomfield. His translation to Canterbury in 1868(he had refused the archbishopric of York in 1862) constituted a recognition of his work but made no break in it. If Blomfield had almost remodelled the idea of a bishop's work. His successor surpassed him. Tait had all Blomfield's earnestness and his powers of work, with far wider interests.
