As far as operation the bi linear part of the amplifier does work. With 4-6 watts AM you get abt 60 watts out and with 7-9 watts SSB you get abt 130 watts out. Note some has by- passed the AM an SSB pushbuttons so there not needed for operation. The IC-720 must have been one of the very first general-coverage transceivers that Icom developed. Having a first IF frequency in the VHF range. The radio is in fact a double-conversion superheterodyne radio. Although in some publications it is called a quad-conversion. The reason is that the third and fourth IF are only used for the variable IF shift, where the fourth IF frequency is identical to the second; a well-known variable bandwidth concept(NOT just an IF shift! invented by Collins, where two sharp filters"run into each other" The radio came well-equipped with filters from the get-go: a solid(physically very large! roofing filter in the first IF at 39.73 MHz. Two crystal filters(AM and SSB) in the second IF(9.0115 MHz) and a crystal filter in the third IF(10.75) used for the variable bandwidth feature. Optionally. Icom IC-229H Mobile/Base Ham Radio. I am selling a IC-229H Ham radio 2 meter transceiver. I have had it quite a while but haven't used it for a few years. It is working fine and I have bench checked it and used it on 2 meters for a few days to test it out. The radio checks out fine with the receiver at.25 microvolts at 12db and the transmitter putting out 45 watts with great audio and right on frequency. The radio is in good shape and it is clean inside. The back lights work. It has a UT-51 tone board installed and has been modified for MARS expanded transmit. Comes with a stock fused power cord. A HM-14 DTMF microphone and a mount. I will guaranty it to work upon receipt but not thereafter since it is an old rig. It has seen base and mobile use and shows normal wear but all functions are working fine.

It is programmed by ICOM software which is not included. The radio puts out 50 watts. Has great transmit and receive audio. It makes a great 2 meter ham band mobile radio. It does not operate in narrow FM service. Cosmetically this radio is used and has signs of normal wear. It was working when I pulled it from service. I bought this on ebay and it was not properly packaged and was damaged in shipping. The faceplate screw holes broken out. Inner plastic broken around squelch knob. I repaired to the point that all functions work as they should and damage is not seen from outside at all. It has full output, but sometimes you talk and audio is great, sometimes low, may be the mic. Maybe you want to tinker with it or maybe parts.
