Zagar 5c lathe Collet Closer, lever operated fits south bend, logan, others?
Hello. Offered for your consideration is a Zagar Collet Rotating 5C chuck for a lathe. it appears to work fine, though it has some cosmetic dings and dents(see pictures) I did not originally use this, so I can't speak to it's former life, but it appears that the closer lever has been repaired by brazing. it does not affect it's function, the lever can be easily moved into the closed position. the way this has apparently been used is interesting. this is a lever-style colllet closer, but the entire thing mounts on the SPINDLE of the lathe, not on the outboard left side of the lathe. also interesting, it's former owner mounted it to a threaded 3" bar, that was apparently also gripped on it's outer periphiry in a 3 or 4 jaw chuck. which might make it faster to mount/unmount, however it might not have been as accurate ... morethat way. the backplate is also bored and threaded with an 8TPI thread. the inside shoulder is 1.496" and the minor diameter of the threads appears to be 1.348. So I believe this to be a 1.5" 8TPI thread which should fit a South bend 9" and many, many other lathes? it's overall outer diameter is about 4.1 inches. it appears to be VERY well made. Here is a nice Royal 5C lever style collet closer. When I purchased my MoriSeiki MS850 lathe it came with two closers. One was on the lathe and just found this sitting on the shelf. It looks to be in very good condition. The tube is just a bit over 24" long from tip to the cam release/engage pawls. It may need a spindle adapter made up but not certain. The closer tube is about 28 inches long from where the inside of the round collar shown in the pics meets the end of the spindle tube on the machine. I used this on another lathe I had years ago and it’s just been hanging from the ceiling since then. The pics make it look like it’s in rough condition. But what’s there is just some light surface rust that will easily clean up with some WD40 and scotchbrite. Royal 5C Collet Closer with 5C Collets
Royal Lever 5C collet closer with unknown 5C collet set. It is missing the pin shown in the picture. The 1/8" collet has a ring around the hole. The bracket is also missing the 4 mounting screws. The collet set is 1/16"1 1/8" by the 32nds for a total of 35 collets. The collet rack is included. This was purchased from Gander Mtn were I was the gunsmith. It was mounted on a Vectrax 14"x40" lathe, It should work on any lathe with a through bore of 1-3/8" it is aprox. 16" long. So the spindle needs to be real close to 16" You would have to contact Royal about whether it would work with your specific make/model. THIS IS AN AS IS AUCTION! NO RETURNS! Royal 5C Manual Collet Closer - For Haas TL-1 Lathe
This Royal 5C collet closer came with my(used) Haas TL-1. But did not have the Collet Adapter/ Chuck. All my work is on a 3-jaw and I don't currently have a use for it. Everything is in very good condition and complete, except for the adapter for the A2-5 Haas spindle. This may also work on a Haas TL-2(which has a A2-6 spindle) I don't know that for sure.
