This is a drum or basket made to hold green coffee beans for roasting. I bought this about five years ago from the person who made it. It was hand made from stainless steel in th U.S. But I don't have the name of the maker. I think I paid about $159 new. It was designed to fit onto the rotisserie of a small counter top oven. I was told it could also be attached to the existing rotisserie of a full sized oven or of a BBQ grill, although I've never tried to use it in that way. I did use it to roast coffee in a stand alone countertop oven, but only used it once or twice. It's made with six baffles built into the inside to stir the coffee beans. It's hinged and opens wide. My caution when using this kind of device is that it becomes very hot. All coffee roasters need a lot of heat, and the beans themselves will reach 400+ degrees ... moreF to roast properly. Please read the entire description before bidding. Up for auction is a Swissmar Bravi half pound home drum coffee roaster. I haven't used this in years and am in the process of cleaning out my storage unit so it's time for it to move on to a new home. I just powered the unit up. The motor turned and the element kicked on(please look at the photos– it's glowing red hot) When you press cool the side vent opens up and it runs through a cooling cycle. This is the important part: From what I remember there is an issue with the roaster involving the thermal probe. but I could be wrong? From what I can remember the unit heats. and heats. and heats but never fully reaches the top roasting level so you have to manually trigger the cooling cycle. The more I think about it. if I remember right. the beans from the last two batches that I ... moreran through were baked and never reached the first crack. I think. that the probe is probably bad. It may just need a good cleaning. Have a loose wire, or? You may be able to modify this unit to not use the internal heating controls(Heat on full or off) and stick a thermometer through the side to allow you to run the unit manually but I will leave that up to you. I have had a few questions about the actual temperature being reached within the roaster so I just stuck a thermometer through the side door to see what temperature the roaster is reaching and it seems to be stalling right around 353f which explains why it keeps running since it never reaches the full roast temperature. Again. my guess. is that it's the thermal sensor inside the roaster. I have attached a photo of the thermometer reading(thermometer is not included in this auction) To the right person/tinkerer. c.1780-1820 antique Rev War era COFFEE ROASTER DRUM
This late 18th century(c.1780-1820) coffee roasting drum measures 27" long(with handle) and has a 12" long drum with 5 1/4" diameter. This style coffee roaster would have been placed on top of a brazier box that was loaded with embers from the fireplace and would be turned by hand to roast the coffee beans. It is all hand made out of hand cut sheet iron that has been riveted together with folded over ends. Condition: some minor bruising and rusting on iron exterior and overall fire pitting from years of use. I purchased the behmor new a couple of years ago and used it 30-40 times. I have access to a commercial roaster so I don't roast at home often. I hate to see this guy sitting so it has to go. This machine has the small grid drum and has been kept clean with the regular cleanings of simple green& dry burn. The machine is not perfect and has a few minor imperfections such is a very small scratch here or there but is fully functional. I have no history on this coffee roaster's origin. My late husband ordered it approx. 15 years ago and had some romantic notion of roasting his own coffee. A great idea. Just too many other interests and hobbies to ever get to check coffee roasting off the list. It was never used after purchase. However, I have held on to this much too long trying to find some information about it. I can say that a lot of research has been done and this thing does NOT have a twin that I can find on the net anywhere! The motor for the rotisserie reads O.V.B.C. Mod. 71G, V.110, W 16, Hz 60. That is all I can find in the way of any markings on the entire apparatus. The stand is made of a very heavy metal and has a bail which fits into a slot on the handle of the rotisserie. The dome would be large enough to generously hold approximately 1 lb of coffee beans ... morewith plenty of air circulation. The dome is a black metal of heavy wt and has some rust which can be cleaned and oiled. It is a great concept and extremely well made. The dome clamps together in the middle and comes completely apart. There is a slide circular window on one half of the done. There are. Of course, no directions, so temperatures for roasting. Times to roast, etc. would be at the discretion of the new owner. The motor turns the roaster freely and is simply bolted onto the shaft. So could easily be replaced should it ever malfunction. Other than the rust. This item would be a very unusual Christmas gift for that Coffee aficionado who has everything. Or for that coffee puritan who wants to roast their own. Dome is 8 1/2" in diameter. Width with the rotor is 16" Ht sitting on the base/stand is 12" tall. Totally functionable as well as decorative. IF anyone out there has any info on the origin. Up for bid is a used but well maintained. Perfectly functioning Behmor 1600 coffee roaster. This is nearly identical to theBehmor 1600 plus, but has a lighter, more efficient chaff tray. Compared to the newer model, this one can heat up quicker due to the lighter thermal mass of the chaff tray, giving you more consistent roasts. This was purchased in 2009 and used lightly for a couple years before going into a box in the basement. It is incredibly easy to use and you can even roast inside.
