It may be the earliest example of this form in existence(See Waldron) From the famed London firm of Smith& Sharp in 1762. As such. It is also by a year, the earliest known piece from the firm. The nearest being a 1763 salver(See Grimwade) It bears the coat of arms of Baron Kenyon. A seated lion with cross atop crowne. Shield flanked by maiden. One with halo and sun symbol. Motto translated"Carry the cross generously" Also with 1885 presentation from friends around Telsmore to Lloyd 4th Baron Kenyon on coming of age. A few more words on Smith& Sharp. Here is an original1860's Georgian silver plate SAMAVAR. The original separate piece that holds the kerosene to keep the water or tea hot is included and with the SAMAVAR. The unused wick is still in place and can be seen in the photos. The underside of this kerosene holder shows where it has been repaired long before it came down to the last two generations. This SAMAVAR is very decorative with shells and swirls. The four feet look like hoofs and above the feet are heads of men with a shell above the head. I have used this piece on many occasions in the past years. I set a small dish under the spicket to catch any drip. This Samovar has been in a clean dry storage for the last twenty years. The Tea Urn is fully marked with an early Gorham Silver Co. mark and Silver Soldered which was only done of their finest pieces of Silver Plate. The Tea Urn is quite unusual and the only one I have seen quite like this. The Tea Urn features great Aesthetic Movement form and details throughout. Including great Side Handles, Feet and Tap. The Urn is of the finest quality though you would expect nothing less from a top American Silver Company as Gorham. The Tea Urn is also in excellent condition throughout with no dents, cracks or repairs, the tap is missing a small screw from the bottom, we filled it with water and there is a slow leak, but I am sure a new screw could be found. The Pot and Stand show only minor wear to the Silver as would be expected on a piece of this age and it displays beautifully. Even the original Burner is intact and with the addition of a wick I am sure would work great. Antique Russian Samovar Brass Tea Urn Pot Tray Set Restore Marked Bowl Teapot
This is a beautiful antique brass Samovar. I think it is from Russia but purchased in Iran. It is very tarnished and hard to read the markings what I found was 6 circles 2 with heads inside the circle 2 with maybe wheat and some writing BETYA and some other words just dont know. The condiition is not wonderful but not bad. What you cant see in the pictures there is a drip underneath may be a loose weld also the spigot doesnt work this is probaly due to the high mineral deposits insde. The bottom ornate base is thin brass kinda beat up and it has a couple splits. There is surface rust on the tray. There are some dings and dents on this set and one wooden knob has a split it is still durable though. With the teapot this stands 21" high and the brass water urn piture stands about 14"h. The Tea Urn is finely made throughout with great Figural Lion Heads. Paw Feet and unusual scalloped top border. The Urn also has a great original family Armorial of a Lion surrounded by Oak Leaves and Acorns. The Tea Urn is still in perfect working order with no leaks when the tap is turned off. The Tea Urn is a Rarely found"Signed" example, marked for the fine Period Silversmith Dan Holy, active around c1800. You can see his maker's mark quite clearly on the front of the base. The Tea Urn is in very fine original condition with no dints, cracks, holes, or repairs and comes complete with the Coals holder inside and the original Period Burner, about as nice of condition as one could hope to find an example of this age. The Lid also fits perfectly tight, the Tea Urn stands perfectly straight and has never been Replated. This came from my grandmother’s estate. She lived in Chevy Chase MD and loved antiques. Note the elegant handles and trim! There are no maker’s marks. A small“B” is scratched on the inside of the lid and on the bottom of the burner. My grandmother’s name started with a“B” So I’m pretty sure she initialed them. The only other marking I see is on the faucet: Patent Jan’y 26 1869” The surface is unpolished and I’ve left it alone to preserve the patina. I suspect it’s silverplate. But can’t say for sure. C. 1820 ? Regency Sheffield Silver on Copper Tea Urn Samovar Barrel Cask form
This is a very scarce form of tea or hot water urn. I did some online research and the only examples of this i found were lots at christies and sothebys. This is beautiful old Sheffield with some copper gleaming through. There is one spot where the silver is entirely rubbed off(In the first photo. About 1 1/2" above the horizontal band and 1 1/2" from the left edge you can make out that worn area) The barrel measures 10.5" long and the spigot extends another 4.5" long. The legs have a wonderful buglike or animal like appearance. However a couple of them have been bent somewhat so the barrel leans a little bit. Its the coolest design. I have taken many photos. Also I tried the teapot and poured some water to see how it works. IT works fine when you push the lid up and down. However. Somehow water leaks from the base of the teapot. So The winner may want to have it silver plated again, with another coat of Silver, or just add it to their collection of silver samovar. There are some scratches around the base of the teapot. I don't think the lid is silver.I can see the signs of wear from the lid. Again this teapot is very very. Unique and has a quite a weight to it. The Tea Urn has a unique early American design with tasseled wreaths, cannon ball feet, acorn finial, and amazing lion figural spigot spout. The Tea Urn also has a very interesting tree designed family Armorial. The Tea Urn is completely hand made throughout, and of incredible quality from top to bottom. You can even see the cast line in the acorn finial where it was made in two pieces and then fused together like an 18th century candlestick would have been made. The Tea Urn tests to be solid.800 grade coin silver throughout. The Tea Urn comes from a prominent Ottawa Family estate, which had a vast amount of important early silver examples. I am told the Tea Urn has been with the family for upwards of 100 years, and that the familys roots trace back to both New York, and Boston Massachusetts. I have looked the tea urn over well and unfortunately cannot see any makers mark. EALES silverplated Coffee Urn and Tea Set with footed Tray
This set is in very good condition. The only thing is that the base that holds the warmer under the coffee urn is gone. it was originally attached the all four legs. The coffee urn is 18" tall to the top of the finial and is almost 11" across the handles. The coffee server is 10" high and 10" from spout to handle The tea server is 9" high and 10" from spout to handle The creamer. Sugar and other dish are 3 1/2" high. The creamer has a couple of minor spots The footed serving tray is 27 1/2" from handle to handle and is 16 3/4" wide. There is a small rust spot on tray about 1/2" long
