An old logger made this to show the kind of work he did. I was told this was made over 50 years ago but I really am not certain of the age. This is a model of a loading boom and loading pot according to the writing on the pieces. I am not real familiar with logging so I am not sure how these are supose to work but I can appriciate the workmanship and folk art quality of these peices. But I was told by the old man that I bought this from, that this would have been used in logging for falling large trees. I understood that gun powder would be packed into a hole in the tree& this would have been driven in with a large hammer for blasting purposes. It is very similar in shape to a plumb bob also, but this is not a plumb bob. This tool is very old& shows surface rust as well as pitting throughout, but still in good condition. It measures 6 1/8" in length& weighs 3 lbs 5 ounces. It is also 3" in diameter at the bottom. Not sure of the maker of this piece, as I could find no hallmarks.
