Antique Jack Early Pat 1876 Stump Lifter Cast Iron Logging Old Farm Tool Wagon
This auction is for a Tarr's Patent 1876 cast iron and forged Jack. The cast iron is embossed Tarr's patent September 26th 1876. The patent says it was a post or stump lifter. I would guess they were used to jack up anything from a wagon to a cabin. I thought it would work great as a log jack of some sort. If you were cutting a log on the ground this Jack could lift up one side of the cut to prevent the saw blade from pinching. It measures about 26 inches tall and 15 inches wide. The ring diameter is 4" o.d. The grab links are 6" 6 1/4" The large swivel hook measures 9" overall. These came out of Wyoming and belonged to a true old school Logger that was hard at work back in the 1960s.The patent puts the design back to 1934 but of course that's just the design.MSA has been been making safety equipment since 1914 when old Thomas Edison helped them get there start.These are adjustable and are set up for interchanging with different size gaff points.The son could not not find the longer logger points so we have to settle for the linemans.You can see in picture#9 that the WM Bashlin legging Pads were fabricated to fit this set sometime in the past by the old guy.Looks like he just bent over metal belt loop to lock into place.Would have come with leg belt straps originally I assume.Other than general wear picture#10 shows one leather belt loop that has broke.More than likely could be repaired.

This auction is for a vintage double bit logging axe with a phantom bevel and the original hickory handle. Marked on the axe: POWER-KRAFT, 84-3721, 3 1/2 LB. 3/2- and marked on the handle: POWER-KRAFT- MADE IN U.S.A. This old logging axe is fully functional and in very good/excellent condition with no rust or pitting and appearing lightly used with some minor scratches. The hickory handle has a small chip on the end but is solid with no cracks and is also in very good condition. MJB Coffee Can Commerating Early Logging in Western Washington 1960-70's RARE!
What a rare find! MJB Coffee tin commemorating logging in Western Washington; photo for the tin provided by The Washington State Historical Society. The tin is in good condition with an area of rust on the front side with the most being near the bottom of the can. Only a small spot on the inside bottom and outside bottom. It measures 6 1/2" tall x 5" wide and does not have a lid. During the same time period I found another tin featuring the Union Pacific Railroad but age is unknown; best guess 1960-70's era.
