Superior variety Chinese Chestnut Seed - QING (10)
PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE PAGE BEFORE BIDDING Listed today are 10 seeds from my grafted variety"Qing" Ching) Chinese Chestnut Trees. Qing is a large. Easy peeling, sweet nut, pure Chinese found growing in Kentucky by an avid chestnut grower. The seeds you will get are larger than the picture shows. My seed selection process: pick out the top 5% or so by hand and sell only those for seed. The rest go to grocery stores to be eaten. Qing has become a standard against which other Chinese Chestnuts are measured. Chestnut trees are picky about what rootstock they will accept to be grafted onto. So if you decide later that you want grafted Qing trees, you had better start with Qing seedlings or you risk delayed graft incompatability. I graft my own trees and also use Eaton as the pollinator for Qing. In the future. I would be able to provide ... moregrafting wood for these for the price of postage. I would also send detailed instructions and some grafting tape as well, just for the asking. If you wonder how much I am really into growing chestnuts. Then notice my user name is Qing Eaton! All seedlings will vary from the parent. But buying grafted Qing trees will cost around $35 a piece. Getting these seeds started and coming back later and grafting them is the way to go. I love to share the art of grafting with anyone who will listen. Each lot of 10 seeds will be sent with dry. Long fiber Sphagnum Moss to soak-up moisture from the seed during shipment. The seed will be only a day or so off the tree at that point and will be releasing moisture. Upon arrival. You should pop the seeds in the fridge, soak the moss in clean water and then squeeze out all but the least bit and add it back to the seeds placing them in a sealed zip lock baggie in the coldest spot in the fridge. 34-36 f works best- do not freeze! Check them after Christmas and then weekly as they sometimes sprout having completed dormancy requirements by then. The colder the better. The longer they keep.
