For more than fifty years I have been acquiring and collecting antiques of all types. Whatever really appealed to me at that particular time in my collecting career. While I continue to collect in several different areas today, it's time for me to disperse all those items which I no longer agressively pursue. So I am selling my accumulation of antique items in numerous categories and of vastly varying values, all acquired by me at sometime in the past and going as far back as the late 1950's. So please bookmark me, or save me as an ebay search, as just about anything is apt to appear in my future listings. DATED 1879" STENCILED SEED/GRAIN SACK" N. MARTIN" AND" NO 10" a1237mel I once purchased a small collection of early owner stenciled grain/ feed sacks. It was very commonplace for farmers to stencil these ... moreseamlessly produced heavyweight sacks with their own name. Or other identifying marks, to indicate ownership. They were so well made that they lasted a very long period of time and were worthy of repair or patching as they developed holes or tears in them. Manufacture of seamless sacks started in about 1850. And several of the manufacturers imprinted the sacks with their company name, while others did not. Since manufacturing continued into the 20th century, and since their appearance is as much a factor of their exposure to surroundings as well as to age, it is typically difficult to definitively determine a sack's exact age. So to be conservative, if they don't have a date on them, I have simply listed them as circa 1890-1910. Ten old natural linen grain sacks. Feesack bags. Six are"unopened" and measure between 21-23 x 37-39. The other four are"opened" and measure between 42-43 x 38. Some of the cloth has a bit of a texture- kind of a very faint raised herring bone type pattern. Photos are not real accurate for color. I'd call them cream color with a few darker flecks here and there. Some of the bags have some very faint browning. Some of the bags also has a small worn spot and holes. Although the old leather belt for the turbine didn't seem to want to stay on. Since I took the pictures, I figured the correct way to run the belt, and now it works just fine. Operator error: It has an electric motor. I do not know if it was converted to electric at some point. Or if the motor is original equipment. The v-belt is frayed, and could stand to be replaced, but it does run the machine. There are a couple of places where the wood on the machine has been damaged. Mainly the corner of the hopper, and it is pictured below. The metal parts of the machine do have some surface rust. But I didn't notice any areas of rot.
