found in a vintage fishing tackle lot.This very early(1930s i would guess) butterfly/mayfly/entomology net. never found one before although you do see them in old fishing catologues.Most have long been eaten by mice. this net consists of a very fine cotten mesh net with two small repairs(expertly done) it is on a threaded collapsable alluminium head and fixes to a three piece hickory(guess) shaft with brass ferrules. this net would have been used to gather insects that would have been used to enitice his trout. good luck.

This is a piece of rare fossil amber from Chiapas. Mexico. The piece is fully polished and has excellent transparency. It has been dated to be similar in age to Dominican amber and is harder to find due to lower supply availability. This piece contains a super rare. Adult mayfly possibly from the Family Baetidae, Order Ephemeroptera along with a rare flower with mass of flower stamens clearly visible. The mayfly has characteristic long cerci(threads) coming off its abdomen. Adult mayflies are exceptionally rare considering they only spend a few days in the adult stage and most of their lifetime in the larval stage. Hence. This is an excellent example of the fossil mayfly larva. Ephemeropsis trisetalis Eichwald 1864, from the Late Jurassic period. It was quarried from the Yixian formation in Liaoning Province, China. The matrix was broken and glued, leaving a crack across the stone just above the larva. The shadow of a much larger specimen inhabits the area above the crack. This clear example is 35 mm long and shows the three tail spines, the spines along both sides of the body, three legs on this side and some on the other, and the mouthparts in the head. A very well- contrasted display piece showing exquisite detail. Matrix is 25 x 60 mm, and ~20 mm thick.

Detailed Fossil Mayfly From Santana Formation - Fossil Insect
This is a very detailed fossil mayfly from the Santana Formation( 108-92 million years ago) of Brazil. I purchased it down at the Tuscon Gem and Mineral Show several years ago but selling off my collection. It is beautifully detailed and has a wingspan of just over 5/8 inch. Super RARE Adult Mayfly with Very Long Cerci Tails in Authentic Dominican Amber
Please see my feedback. I have sold fossil amber for over 7 years on eBay and sell only authentic fossil amber. Not fake or plastic. This fully polished piece of all-natural authentic Dominican amber from the mines in the Dominican Republic contains a super rare adult mayfly(Order Ephemeroptera) with 3 very long tails(cerci) This is perhaps the sixth mayfly I have found in Dominican amber in my past 11 years of amber collecting and preparing. There is also the exuvium(molting) of a fulgoroid present. According to Secrets of A Lost World: Dominican Amber and Its Inclusions by Rafael Jie Chiang Wu pg. 139, Mayfly adults enjoy a lifespan of no more than 2 days. On the transition from nymph to adult stage. They fly from the surface of the water for mating but do not feed. They complete the mating process and die within one or two days.
