This week I have the pleasure to present at auction. Without reserve, a rare collectable briar pipe, made by H. Comoy& Company Ltd. London, England, in the years 1950's You are bidding on a superb and pre-smoked briar pipe. It is a particular"Billiard" shape very difficult to find it. I had a look on old catalogs Comoy's, can also be found on the internet, and I found no trace of such a shape. It has a rectangular shank and a saddle flat mouthpiece in vulcanite, it fitted with three piece"C" Comoy's inlaid logo. It shows a"London Pride" grading or pipe-line stamp. It important to remember that this pipe-line was introduced as a second grade of the"Blue Riband" high grade pipes. It was finished with a remarkable natural color transparent, which shows a beautiful grain cross-cut that it ... morehas horizontally on the front of the bowl, and at the same time becomes excellent bird eyes on the sides of the bowl. This vintage pipe is very light, weighing only 32 grams and is in excellent condition, in consideration of the time spent. By Comoy’s brand History Francois Comoy and his brothers started making pipes in 1825 in Saint- Claude. France. Claude and his son Louis discovered that briar had vastly superior qualities and from 1848 made pipes only in this wood. In 1879 Francois’s son Henri who was born in 1850 moved to London. Henri set up a small factory in Seven Dials which is today known as Cambridge Circus. In 1929. The company was invited to join Cadogan Investments Ltd. This was known as“The Merger, which consisted of the Civic Company and Oppenheimer Pipes with their associated companies. This merger was formed in order to create co-operation between the various companies. The main manufacturing companies in the merger known as Cadogan Investments Ltd. were Civic. This piece has great patina. The veneer has bubbled and chipped in a couple of spots but its hardly noticeable. The over all condition of this piece is excellent for its age. It is a very old antique and will not be perfect. I do not know the exact date it was made or who the maker is. The base measures 39 inches tall, 53 inches side to side and 23 inches front to back. It weighs 75 pounds. The top measures 34 ½ inches tall, 49 1/8 inches side to side and 17 1/8 inches front to back. It weighs 97 pounds. Atkins 26" 7pt Cross Cut Hand Saw like Disston D8
I am not sure what model this is but I would guess it is a Model 51 or 52 or 66. The etch is no longer readable. All in all a quality saw. The apple handle has very few condition issues. The blade is very straight and there is some pitting 6 to 8" near the toe. Apart from that the saw is in great shape with a lot of blade left(2 1/2" wide at the toe) This would make a great saw for breaking down 2 bys or general roughing work. It is fresh off the sharpening bench and ready to go to work in your shop. I have jointed/set and sharpened this saw. I do as little as possible with the handles. I am more concerned with making them functional so most of my work centers on the blade. I enjoy bringing these old saws into working order. I do not attempt to over restore. E.C. Atkins No. 2 - 14 inch 14 ppi cross cut back saw -faint etch -apple handle
This is an absolutely beautiful E.C. Atkins 14 inch crosscut saw with 4 ppi. It has a very faint E. C. Atkins etch with"No. 2" under it. I accidently over polished the blade and couldn't bring the etch back. You can still see a little of it if you move it around so it catches the light just right. It is freshly sharpened with about 12 degrees of rake and 25 degrees of fleam. It cuts aggressively. Smoothly, and keeps the line wonderfully. The handle has a really neat sap wood streak to it and is about as perfect as you will find. The medallion is the recessed style and is nickel. The spine is nicely blued and the blade polished. The handle was cleaned up and finished with some blond shellac and then some paste wax. It feels very very good in the hand and looks amazing. Fabulous Cut Glass Decanters These lovely pair of cut glass decanters are 9" tall and approximately 4 1/2" at the widest point. I am not certain if they are American or English but was told they are over 65 years old. They weigh 3 pounds 2 ounces each! NEWS FLASH! I sent a picture of the decanters to a leading cut glass collection and received the following response: We feel that these decanters are VERY old. Probably before the Brilliant Period. That shape of stopper was used in the 1850s and 1860s. Without having the pieces‘in hand’ it is very difficult to tell if they are pre-American Brilliant or foreign– and wouldn’t have any idea as to foreign origination country. All hand-cut with a regular pattern of hobstars and diamond cut panels interspersed with cross-hatched triangular insets. The cream pitcher measures a little over 3 inches tall. It is 5.4 inches wide from handle to spout end. It has an interior diameter of 2.5 inches. Both pieces have intricately beveled and faceted handles. The handles have a flat-top surface. The pitcher's spout is also scored. The sugar bowl also has the lovely flat-top. Faceted handles. It is a little over 3 inches high and 6.5 inches from handle to handle's edge. ABP Later Period Cut Glass Compote or Comport with Pinwheel Fans and Cross Hatching Great Condition! Hello and welcome! Offered here is an American Brilliant Cut Glass Compote with a Pinwheel and Fans design! This Compote is from the later brilliant period of about 1910- 1920. Pieces from this period had less complex geometric designs than earlier. But still quite stunning. This compote has pinwheels and fans with sections of beautiful cross hatching for maximum sparkle. Note that the top rim is cut into scallops. The Compote measures 8" high and 5 1/4" wide. It is solid clear crystal glass with a lovely ring when plinked.
