vintage Wright and McGill "Granger Victory" Split-Bamboo Fly Rod, 4 pieces, tube
Exact item shown. This is a bamboo fly rod that assembles in 3 pieces. There are two of the thin end pieces. I weighed the three pieces that make a complete rod(handle piece. Middle piece, end piece) on my postal scale, it weighs 5.2 ounces. Each piece is 35 inches long. Near the handle there are two rubber stamps on the rod, one says"Granger Victory" the other says"Wright& McGill" The metal reel holder part of the handle says"Made by Wright& McGill Rod Co Denver Colo USA" it also has two patent dates- Pat Apr 12 1938" and"Pat No 2114107. The aluminum tube says"CHAMIPON" MFD by CAL-AIR Products Los Angles" Inside the screw on cover there is stamped" CAL-AIR Products Co Los Angles" This rod is from the estate of a relative who died a long time ago. It has sat unused for ... moredecades. I don't know anything about fly fishing. I have tried to describe the rod carefully, I see no damage, no wear, no stains, etc. There is some oxidation on the silver metal, not rust, and there is some darkening of the cork handle from holding it, othewise to me it looks absolutely like new. VTG WRIGHT & McGILL GRANGER 8642 Bamboo Fly Rod 8 1/2' STREAM & LAKE
The Granger 8642's have got to be the most iconic western taper bamboo fly rod in history. I like them because they are very versatile and can cast in all situations including when the winds pick up and will fish a 5 or a 6. My story this past summer included my first outing with an 8642 Special and was 3 days on the B_r River in Montana. We fished the upper head waters for up to 16" Cutts and the Special was a ball. Then we fished lower. Larger waters for nice sized, hard fightin' bows. I could not believe that I was making 60' casts with a hopper in the wind. Later in the day I switched over to a nymph rig and was amazed at how well it could mend the line. I even fished streamers with the fear of nicking the rod but it performed flawlessly. Now I don't know about you, but that is the type of waters that I normally fish, ... moremuch more than the dainty little creeks. I am having a hard time fishing with graphite again! This rod is very nice. But has a couple of minor issues. One guide on the mid has been re-wrapped with the correct scarlet red. It was done nicely and other than it looking slightly newer than the rest of the wraps, you can hardly tell. One tip had a splinter on the top 6" and has been wrapped in clear. It is even hard to tell in the pics and should fish like the other tip, which is excellent. The finish on the rod is near flawless and shines like new. The pics show the condition of the grip and seat. Ferrules have a nice fit. Sock is original but the tube is a few inches longer than the rod. Shipping is $13.50 to the lower 48 On Dec-14-12 at 14:00:49 PST. Seller added the following information: International shipping is incorrect. To ship a package overseas of this size with insurance will cost around $50+ or- Sometimes Ebay fills in the blanks for you and I overlooked this one. They will not let me change it.

This is a very sought after fly rod because of the 7 foot size and high quality make. I found in a garage sale and never fished with it. Has 2 tips. Sock and aluminum case with cap. On Dec-06-12 at 16:01:21 PST. Seller added the following information: Additional information about condiction: The varnish is perfectly smooth with no blemishes or checks. The wraps. Guides and ferrules are all solid and tight. I can see no noticeable sets. The rod sock shows no signs of use either. It is clean with no water spots, mildew or dirt stains. You are bidding on a vintage Wright& McGill Denco 8' No. B- 8A8 7 weight fly rod. This rod is in very good condition. The guides are secure and the wraps are tight. The wraps have minor unravelling on two of the guides as seen in the pictures. The cork is in very good condition with the exception of a small section being trimmed above the reel seat as seen in the last picture. This was probably done to accomodate a larger reel. Does have a hook keeper. How weird is that for a rod this old. I was not able to find a lot of info on this rod. what I did find was that the Deluxe series was issued first in 1948. It states that the" Wright& McGill Deluxe casting rod was made from Tonkin cane. I see this rod and it is different. It could be the Tonkin cane or it could be some type of fiberglass? It is brown with brown thread wrap(top 6 ferrules only) The seventh(7) ferrule near the center has cream under wrap and brown thread wrap. The same on the handle end. This rod is in great condition. This is a Eagle Claw"Trailmaster" fly rod/ spinning rod combination. Put out by the Wright Mcgill CO. Denver Colorado. This is a six piece rod, when all together it measures 6' 9" 206cm) The rod looks like it was used very little, it has a couple tiny nicks on the metal of the base portion of the rod, the handle. There is a soft cloth pouch with a partition for the different pieces. And a nice aluminum case with a water tight screw on cap. The aluminum case measures 15" end to end and is 2 3/4" in diameter. This is a nice set and as the name implies it would be great for packing in, it can be attached to a back pack or with a thong around your shoulder, the thong, or string is missing, but easily replaced. For Sale: I have a Wright& McGill Skeet Reese Jig/Worm Casting Rod. it was used for one season(Id say 5-10 times) The rod is in great shape. A little dirty from being used, as you can see there is some black on the rod. I have no idea what caused it or if you can scrub it off(it cannot be felt with the finger) I have no problem with the rod, I just got about 5 new rods around Christmas so its time to move some. I have the shipping set as a calculated cost within the US. I have it this way because I am not trying to make any money on the shipping. The package weighs 7 pounds and is 96" long. Up for bid is a Vintage 1950's 2 piece rod Wright& Mcgill 8-6 1/2S Fishing Rod with the Original Tube. It measures approx 7 feet. The Tube is in GOOD Condition with some wear and a Fairly Clear Decal and Both End Caps. The rubber butt cap is in VERY COOD Condition and marked JOHN GLIEBE 1154 MYRTLE AVE.BROOKLN NY. THE cork handle Looks VERY GOOD with EXCELLENT Maroon Paint and GREAT Working Reel Seat. The Decal on the rod is about half missing. It has 6 eyes including the tip which appear to be tight and VERY GOOD Condition. There is some unraveling to one strand at the top of the handle piece. Up for auction today is very nice vintage bamboo fishing rod. The rod is a 4-piece rod with one of the pieces being an extra tip. The 3 pieces when put together measure 108” long. The label on the rod is marked WRIGHT& MCGILL HAND MADE Water Seal SUPER ROD SEALED AGAINST WATER. On the label. It also has the seal balancing a ball logo and next to that in small lettering“1950 W& M CO. The label is in mint condition. On the reel seat the lettering reads; MADE BY WRIGHT& MCGILL ROD CO. DENVER COLO USA 12 1938 PAT NO 2114107(patent issued for the reel seat on April 12 1938– the April is unreadable) It come with a metal case with a cloth sleeve. The label on the metal case reads; WRIGHT& MCGILL HAND MADE WATER SEAL SUPER ROD 1950 W& M CO SEALED AGAIST WATER F.A.H.90 9’ FLY ROD. The label is missing a piece where the MG in Mcgill ... moreis…see photos. The metal case has some scratches on it. The case has brass ends and is all non-magnetic. The main portion is pained a beautiful burgundy color and is probably aluminum. The cap threads onto the case. The rod itself is in excellent condition. When I was shooting the photos I noticed an area section on one of the tip sections that looks likes a repair(see last photo) it is about 2 ½” long. Other than I see no breaks. Missing parts or repairs. Please see photos to determine condition and ask questions. I could not find any information that would date this model. I have the original white sock it came in I will ship with the rod. 1) T he nickel silver reel seat design was patented in 1938. The Stream& Lake was introduced in 1947. 2) Goodwin Granger(1889– 1931) designed the Champion Grade in 1933 in his company before Wright& McGill purchased the company and changed the name of the“Champion” grade to“Stream& Lake” 3) Wright& McGill leased the Goodwin Granger Company in 1946 and the sale to W&M wasn’t complete until 1958. For sale at a buy it now fixed price is this great fiberglass rod from Wright McGill Eagle Claw. It is the Pro Worm Model MB870Mspin fishing rod and it is a 7 foot two piece rod. It is a medium action rod good for up to 12 pound line and 3/8 ounce lures. It has an uplocking seat. It is made in the USA. We have no tube or rod sack for this rod. This rod is used and has some rub marks on it but overall it is cosmetically good and immediately usable. It assembles to the correct length so it has not been broken and repaired. We do ship worldwide but international shipping can be expensive and the length of this rod is ok for some countries. Wright McGill Bamboo Fly Rod 8040 (Marshall Fields)
Marshall Fields One Striper made by Wright McGill. This rod is a Granger Victory 8040 made for Marshall Fields in Chicago. As you can see. One tip is missing. The bag and tube are not original. The mid ferrule moves 1/16 of an inch when the rod is disassembled. It appears someone tried to fill a couple dings in the cork. I tried to show them in the photo. The rod is better then the description sounds but I'd rather understate it and avoid a disappointed buyer. Please ask if you have questions.

Wright& McGill WME Fly Rod- 954(9 ft. 5 wt, 4 pc) I have only fished this rod two or three times. It has been my back-up rod for a couple of years and is in Excellent Condition! Listen to this Testimonial by. On the river. The rod performed very well and I landed several decent size rainbows in swift water with no problems. I'm always afraid of flinging a rod section off into the wild blue on a 4 piece rod, but the snug fit of the sections prevented any such occurrence. I paired the rod with a G Loomis Venture 5 reel since I didn't have a W&M reel to pair it with. I need to get my hands on one of their Dragon Fly reels to make the setup complete. I'm constantly amazed by the quality out of mid cost range rods these days. Manufacturers like Wright& McGill are really giving the big names a run for their money. This is ... moremy favorite segment of the market because I strongly believe that fly fishing is in the fly fisherman/women and not so much in the equipment. For those like myself who are more concerned with catching fish than impressing my friends. Rods like the WME954 are a perfect match. You can build an arsenal of fly rods without spending your retirement savings and be confident in the gear. Wright& McGill has an excellent lifetime warranty on their fly rods(with the exception of the plunge series) which rivals most of the big names as well. Should the fly rod fail due to material or workmanship. You simply return it for a replacement. If they no longer make the model you return, they will replace it with the current generation equivalent. Note to buyer: I do not have the W&M rod case(only the rod sock) To protect the rod during shipping. I will ship it in a G. Loomis case that is damaged but functional. Also. Vintage April 12 1938 patent Wright& McGill Granger Deluxe split bamboo Fly Rod- 3 piece hex. Six sided construction, 9 foot 3 piece with extra tip. Very Good Condition. This was my father's rod. I don't know any more about it than what I learned through research. He was a rod builder and has done restoration in the past. I do not know if this rod has any restoration work. I left the patina so the photo of the rod seat are kind of hard to read. I assembled this rod just to measure it and would love to go fish it based on the beautiful action. NO RESERVE Auction Vintage Wright McGill Granger Victory 9 foot 3 piece. One tip ready to fish. This beautiful rod is ready to fish and priced so that you don't feel guilty fishing it. Many rods are collectibles and are never fished, just displayed or tucked away because they are too expensive or impossible to replace if broken. If you have always wanted to fish one of these collectible rods without the hefty price tag this is it. This rod appears to have been refinished by a professional. All the wraps are tight. Varnish is beautiful, ferules pop when removed. No clicking in the ferules when making casting motion. I was told this was refinished in an Aristocrat wrap rather than the traditional Victory wraps. Who knows why but a beautiful specimen. Check out the pictures where the flash worked with me and you will see how this rod will ... morelight up in the sunlight. This is a used rod, however, I can't find anything wrong with it. I would not call it mint but it is excellent in my opinion. Please ask questions if you have them. This rod comes with the vintage sock and(non original) aluminum tube. Not sure if the sock is original. If it is there is only room for the one tip. The rod tube is banged up but serves its purpose, protect the rod. Again this is a rod meant to fish, I hope someone else out there appreciates it and gets to land some monsters with it.
