This auction is for a vintage Mepps travel rod and reel that belonged to a family who used to live in France. This is a vintage set. Probably from the late 60's or early 70's I would guess. I think this must be pretty rare. As I have never seen a Mepps-branded rod before. It appears that it all went together as found. There is a leather and canvas carry case, the telescoping rod, the reel, an original instruction sheet(all in French) and an extra spool. The orange Super Meca reel is in fantastic condition.I only lightly wiped it down. It operates smoothly and effortlessly. It has a thumb screw to allow it to swivel to the side for more streamlined storage in the bag. The inside is clean as a whistle too.see close up. There are only a couple of minor rub marks on the finish. The telescoping rod needs a little help-all of the guides ... moreare loose and I think it got banged around in storage all of these years. It is complete. And I think it is worth having restored since I cannot find anything anywhere on Mepps rods. Coming from France, maybe it was some kind of employee gift or something. The rest of the rod is very nice.all of the pieces are nice. As is the cork grip. The canvas travel case is a bit dirty, but has a leather bottom, leather trim, leather handle and leather straps. It is solid and usable or would make a great display. There is a two-sided pocket on it. All in all, a great vintage piece with a fantastic vintage reel made by one of the all time lure companies. The rod is a 7' Model SF74-4 3 7/8 oz. rod featuring the Fenwick Feraite"Twist on Twist off" sections. Rod was designed for AFTMA Fly Line No.6 and 3-6# line for the spinning rod using 1/8 to 3/8 oz. lures. Each rod section measures approx. 22 1/2" long. The rod is nice but is missing the black butt cap. The label showing serial# I 17223 is coming off at the edges and a couple of the wire eyes are a little misshaped. For Sale. MINT Sage SP 589-5 fly rod(8ft. 9in. 5 piece/ 5 weight) this was Sage Manufacturing's premiere travel rod, built on their Graphite IV blank and comes with two(2) tips as sold. I have been the only owner of this rod, its primary use only for long distance trips where space and weight were a premium. It is a medium action rod and delivers beautifully for dry fly and lighter weight nymphing. A perfect travel rod for trout and smaller fresh water game fish.
