Body sides- the lacqer is damaged/dis-colored along bootom about an inch or so wide up to neck. Speaking of neck.Fretboard is wood and in great condition.Along edge of high side you can very faintly see numbers in white along fretboard neck.the ones that are most visible,appear to be clean factory applied.Not sloppy. There are some very small white paint specs on pickup cover. NO CASE. It was trashed out in moisture laden basement! Welcome! Up for auction is a modified Gibson Les Paul Recording model circa 1973-74 Serial# 614980 The only originality of the guitar is the neck& body. No breaks or repairs. In 2007 the guitar was sent to Gibson repair& restoration to be custom modified& re-finished.Tthe guitar retains it's original serial# 614980. The following is a list of mods& work that was done to the guitar: Electronically the guitar has 3 Gibson'57 Classic PAFs with nickel covers. A 3 position Switchcraft toggle switch( which selects the Rhythm pickup only up position, Rhythm& Bridge pickups only middle position or Bridge pickup only down position) The middle pickup's signal output is exclusively controlled by it's volume pot) it has 2 Switchcraft jacks mono/stereo, a 6 position rotary varitone switch, 2 slide switches(one for reversing ... morethe phase of the bridge pickup& one to bypass the varitone circuit) 4 gibson pots( 3 volume pots, one for each pickup& one master tone pot for all pickups) The electronics have a wide variety of range& sounds ideal for recording. The lower jack on the guitar is for mono operation. When a 1/4" cable is plugged into both jacks, the system then becomes stereo(the top jack controls the signal of the Rhythm pickup& the lower jack controls the signal for the Bridge pickup) The middle pickup's signal can be blended into either channel by rolling the volume on, or it can simply be rolled off& be completly out of the circuit/signal. The guitar has been refretted with medium jumbo fret wire, it has nickel plated Grover rotomatic tuners, a nickel Gibson ABR-1 bridge& a nickel plated Bigsby B-7 vibrato. Custom made pickguard assemblies, a Gibson Historic"Les Paul" embossed truss rod cover& new wiring. The guitar plays easy& is structurally sound. Up for auction is the 1939 Recording King( Gibson)Model M3. It absolutely plays and sounds beautiful. It has normal wear( very minimal for the age) and I am the 3rd owner. in the 30's and 40's Recording King was a plant of Gibson that made guitars for the Montgomery Ward catalog. I've used it in some recording cases and it again. It sounds more than perfect. The first owner decided two drill a very small hole in the head stock so they could hang it on the walls, but the second owner put this emblem over it. Other than that everything on it is original as far as my research could tell. Way back when. This was state-of-the-art equipment. This belonged to my stepfather, who was a journalist for most of his life. In its day, this was an exceptional piece of equipment. It is a professional recoding Walkman, circa 1986 or so. I have put batteries in it(it takes 4 AA batteries) and the lights work and the heads go round. Beyond that I can't tell, not having a tape or a tape deck to try it out with! I would say it works, my stepfather was a meticulous man, and this has been in storage probably for about 15 years or so. It has a microphone jack as well as headphone jack, it has a recording level dial and a light meter to tell you if the sound you are recording is registering or is too close. All in all.
