As shown, it has the strainer, so it can be used for almost anything. Pasta, vegetables, clams, lobster, crab. Since the strainer part sits only 6" into the pot, it still has 4" left for water and is a fantastic steamer. The strainer section is 10" deep, so it will hold some nice larger food items. With the strainer in the pot and the lid on, the total height to the top of the handle is 14" If I've missed anything. Please ask.
