Turkish Brazier, Heater, Solid Brass!
This is a very cool and unusual piece.I have been given several variations of what these were used for. This one has been used. But is in very good condition. It has a wonderful patina; however, it should polish up nicely for a shiny brass finish if that is your desire. The finial on the top of the lid is a crescent moon and star. The lid contains some intricate engraving. The"hot bowl" shows that it has been used on the inside, but is still nice and shiny on the bottom. There are some minor defects(the top edge of the base is bent slightly and there are a couple of small cracks between a couple of the vent holes in the lid, likely from the heat) but the piece appears to be complete and in very good condition overall. All of the pieces are there and in great condition as shown in the pics. The entire piece stands about 22" ... moretall and about 18" in diameter. I have been as detailed as I can in the description and pics, but please feel free to ask about anything specific I may have overlooked. Has a wooden handle, swing up grill to easily add your charcoal and is riveted together like they were in the 18th century and weights 7 lbs. An unusual antique two-part bronze brazier/pot. I bought this pot at an estaqte auction in Europe. In Bieres, Switzerland about 20 years ago. I believe it is Chinese or possibly Tibetan. It has heavy patina, a small dent in one side and wear. I'm assuming that hot coals were placed in the bottom part and food was kept warm on the flat dish that fits on top.
