The drawer has dovetailed construction and a cool-looking metal pull. This is a stunning Japanese Kodansu(miniature cabinet/ chest used for holding personal accessories or belongings) which is finely lacquered and inlayed with iridescent mother of pearl shell floral& tree design. The mother of pearl is applied to each side of the box and the top. The box has three drawers that pull out. The drawers and top of box have hardware of brass with silver rosette backing. The inside of each drawer. As well as the bottom of the drawers, box and feet are all decorated in gold Maki-e, the Japanese technique of sprinkling gold or silver powder on freshly applied lacquer. Obviously the door was lost or damaged at some point and the glass used as replacement and protection of the drawers. The drawer fronts are all decorated with the inlay mother of pearl as well. The kodansu has four wooden feet which show wear to their bottoms. There is also a bit of lacquer damage to edge of one foot, shown in last photo. The lacquer has a beautiful gloss finish with a few areas of pitting here and there. There are also a few areas where the mop is missing, very small and hard to find unless carefully inspected. I find the box to be in wonderful condition considering it is from the 19th century. The kodansu is 7 3/8" tall, 5 3/ wide and 5 1/4" deep. A find piece of late Meiji Period history. 1949 Canadian built Addison AM 5 tube table radio in wood cabinet. I have been collecting radios since the 70's. Especially Addison models and this is the only model 57 I have ever come across. This radio has been well kept in a smoke free home as part of my collection. The chassis has been restored with new stock filter capacitors and interstage capacitors. The tubes are12BA6,12BE6,12AV6, 35W4 and 50L6) and test all over 90% There are only a few light scratches and no ugly marks on the cabinet. It is original finish. The front dial is very clean, grill cloth in exceptional condition and the AC cord has been replaced. Steel chassis is clean and still shiney. 19th Century Korean Takumi Cabinet w/White Brass Hardware Elm Wood??
We are pleased to offer this beautiful cabinet to the market. I have been told that this piece is of Korean origin and dates to the 19th Century. I was also told that this was most likely made from elm but I cannot confirm that. The top is attached to the sides with dove tail joints. The back appears to be hand planed. The corners are metal bound with white brass hardware. It appears that the lower left corner piece has been replaced. It stands 26.5" high x 33" long x 15 1/8" deep. This is in great condition with minor surface scratches that are age and use appropriate. There are some deeper scratches on the top of the cabinet most likely from pieces being stored on top of it. There is also some light cracking on the top from age. Structurally this is solid and there are no cracks or signs of repair. I believe this is from the 50s or 60s. The lattice work is done in a textured. 3D, delicate, carved, notched wood adding to the decorative look. Magnetic closure at the top of the doors to secure it when closed. Two metal hangers at top. Back wall is lined with a textured grass paper. Hello and welcome to the auction. First of all. I'm sorry that these pictures are so inconsistent, some are really good and some not so good. Please know that this sewing box is in extraordinary condition and if you are the lucky winner you will be very glad that you were. I hope that the pictures do show how really beautiful this sewing box is. I bought it to use for jewelry but realized that with it opened, it really is too large to have inside my smallish apartment. That's how large this sewing box is. And it can hold a ton. Now. There seem to be a lot of these sold recently on eBay, some go for as high as $275 and I saw others as low as $60. I can see some of the differences between the really high priced ones and the lower prices online. This basket is generally the higher priced version of the Strommen. This has 4 legs and a ... morelarge handle. It has 2 side handles that are in excellent condition compared to others that I've looked at. I saw no glaring scratches or nicks or chips. It is a tad dry and could use some regular oiling but I will leave that to the new owner. The measuring stick alongside the box is 3 feet or 1 yard. You can see the enormous size of this item in comparison to the ruler. Amazingly. It folds up nicely into a beautiful smaller box that will look exquisite in any corner or standing out for all to see. You don't need this for sewing or knitting. It is perfect for so many other things. Like I said, I was going to use it for jewelry, or doodads. Make up would fit inside nicely and I won't even get into what my husband wanted to store in it.
