Being offered for auction is a Mats Jonasson Art Glass Totem Mask Sculpture in Swedish Crystal. He utilizes both hand-etching and sandblasting techniques to create some unique pieces of art. This is one of those pieces. The overall height of this piece is approximately 10.875 inches. Bottom base edge to tallest point of sculpture. The width measures approx. 5.125" at the widest point spanning edge to edge. The piece is signed on the bottom edge of the sculpture with the artist's name and the piece number 65009(please refer to photos) This piece appears to be an abstract piece of art(and may well be) But Jonasson's"Totem" series was actually inspired by native mask-making. Mats Jonasson(yu-na-son) has spent a lifetime working with glass. In 1959. At the age of 14, he joined the Maleras Glasbruk AB in Maleras, Sweden. ... moreHis father, who also worked there, knew his son was an excellent artist and recommended him for the job. Over the years his skills were honed and his artistic innovations manifested into some of the finest works around. He begins his work with a drawing. He then carves a plaster replica of the finished piece. Unlike plaster or resin collectibles. A silicone mold will not work with molten glass; the mold created from Jonasson's replica is iron. He then works on the iron mold directly using diamond drills and files to clarify its details. The full lead crystal used in the finished piece is a special blend developed by the Swedish Glass Research Institute. This crystal is know for its extraordinary refraction and brilliance. After casting. The glass is annealed(heated and cooled slowly) for 15-20 hours. Any piece with imperfections, such as air bubbles, are discarded before the laborious post-production begins. This involves sandblasting portions of each piece, with various grades of cutting sand at different velocities. This is a great looking piece of crystal. Of a polar bear thats 8 3/4" tall, 8" wide and 1 3/4" thick. This piece weighs 7 lbs, 5.5 oz. Its in very good, bright condition, no chips or cracks, but does have a few, very light use scratches. It has the paper sticker and its signed on the bottom and says- Mats Jonasson 2261. Stunning Vintage Hand Embroidered Set of 3 Floral Table Mats Perfect Pansies This is such a beautiful set of table mats from my collection of fine H eritage linens featuring these adorable pansies. Ever since I was a child I have had a passion for pansies with their soft velvet petals and enchanting'faces' So these are quite nostalgic. They have been exquisitely and expertly embroidered in a textured satin stitch perfectly replicating the details of the flowers. This set would be perfect to add to a collection or to add decorative detail in so many pl aces in the home- maybe a d ressing table or wash stand. Certainly something to treasure. Perfect to give as a vintage gift to someone special. I have. As always, taken many images so that it is easier to appreciate and study the amazing needlework skills of those who created these heritage ... morepieces from a bygone era. I always aim to highlight all the relevant aspects in the detail below. The Details: There are three mats in total.One large oval one and two smaller round ones. The colours of the embroidery silks so perfectly replicate what I call true pansy colours. This together with the texture and shading of the beautiful satin stitch makes for very realistic looking pansy flowers. The larger oval mat has a large spray of two open pansies with three buds and bright green foliage at either side. The smaller round ones have the decorative detail of one open pansy with bud and foliage. The edges of the mats are scalloped and have b een worked with a very pretty pink neat buttonhole stitch. The reverse of the embroidery has been well finished and so neat that it is hardly discern i ble from the front. See last image The material used is quality cream linen. Signed and#3287. Excellent used condition. The duck- 3 7/8" x 3 1/2" Swimming among the reeds. Signed and#2515 or 2575(can't tell for sure) Excellent used condition. However. There is a small dotted line above the duck's head but I honestly can't tell if it was done by the artist or is a scratch. Barely noticable but want to mention it. Both are great pieces. It also feels wonderful. The back is silky smooth while the sides and design ... morefeel interestingly textured. The piece is in excellent condition. I see only two tiny tiny 1/4" scuffs on the back. They are very difficult to see. This sculpture measures 5 1/2 inches tall by 4 1/2 inches wide and is 2 inches deep. The piece could stand alone on a shelf or it is sturdy enough to hold back books. It could even be used as a paperweight. About the Artist Lorenzo Fracchetti came to Canada from Italy as a young man and soon developed an intense interest in Arctic Canada and northern people. Fracchetti particularly appreciated how the Inuit made use of their spare time over the winter applying their creativity to artisan projects such as sculpture. He sketched them as he watched them work. His black and white drawings effectively capture the more dramatic expressions. His oil paintings focused largely on Arctic scenes and animals. As an artist. Vintage PRIMITIVE Art Hand Made TONGA Set of 4 Mats, Bark, Palm Fronds or Straw
This item is a set of four vintage hand made mats from the Pacific island country of Tonga. I suspect they were made as souvenirs for the tourist trade. I don't know their age but suspect they are quite vintage. They are 12 1/2" x 9 1/8" and made of a woven straw-like material(perhaps palm fronds) There are two separate rectangles of woven material which are sewn together along with a woven zig-zag border on the fronts. They are fairly stiff so I think there may be something inside to help hold them rigid. The backs are just the plain woven material and the fronts are decorated with a material that I believe is some type of bark. Each has a hut. Two palm trees and either another hut or a mound or mountain. The block letters TONGA are at the top. The letters are glued on but the rest of the pictures have been sewn on. The stitching ... moreappears to be by machine. The designs were sewn on before the fronts and backs were put together as that stitching can only be seen from the front. Some wear, some imperfections. Each mat is slightly different from the others and the fourth one has some of the letters of TONGA missing. FREE SHIPPING is included for the US only.

Set of 5 Japanese Lacquered Plates and Mats
Estate find: Set of 5 Japanese lacquered plates in red. Black and gold with 5 wooden mats. A friend in Japan told me that the mats are for draining soba noodles so they don't get sticky before dipping them in sauce. The plates and mats are in very nice condition and don't appear to have been used. Each plate measures approx. 8" in diameter x 1 1/2" deep- and they stack beautifully! THANKS FOR LOOKING! DATE: 1950'S This kit originally contained"OVER 40 COMPLETE PIECES- FOR 8 KIDDIES. Though it is mostly complete. There are some items missing. There were originally eight napkins, but there are only five remaining. Also, there are five out of eight candy baskets/place cards still in the box. The kit contains two"Pin the the Tail on Pluto" games. One is uncut and unused while the other has been used with one of the eight tails clipped from the sheet. All eight mats are present, though some of them show some signs of use. The kit originally included 8 invitations, but none of these are remaining. Also in the box are two identical instruction sheets for assembling the party kit and pieces ... moreof string to use in assembling the hats. The duplicate Pluto games and instruction sheets suggest that the contents of this box may be the remnants of two separate kits that were combined, but I do not know for sure. This item is generally in Good Plus or better condition. The box has medium general wear including a tear near the center of the bottom side panel of the box lid. And there is another side tear on one of the shorter panels on the bottom section of the box. Edge and corner wear is also present on the box lid, but there are no splits present. Some of the pieces in the box have been used while some have not been used, as shown in my pictures. Please check my pictures to get a better idea of the condition of this item.
