This is a set of eight small but very pretty table mats in white hemstitched linen with green cross stitch embroidery. And a flower in white buttonhole stitch embroidery- nicely made. Each measures 13 inches by 9 inches. They have been well used and laundered but are in good condition with one or two tiny brown age marks on one of them, but otherwise very good. With them I am also listing a pair of very brightly embroidered traycloths. One at 23 inches by 14 inches is in a coarse linen with two densely embroidered flower sprays. The other, the same size, is in what feels like a muslin of some kind, almost transparent, and is embroidered with flowers and what can only be described as colourful'whorls' Very unusual! They measure about 14" long and 8" wide. A very interesting lot of paper shoe display pieces that managed to survive from about 100 years ago! I am not sure if the vintage shoes were displayed on the paper advertising or if they were used like footprints on the floor in an area of the store. Four of the six do show some damage and some have discolored on the back. There is four of a tan color and two are a light blue color. All have black trim and advertising. REVISED Handmade Lace- Embroidery and Needle Lace- Set for Eight- Mats Runner Napkins Ch'ih Fu/ Fine Madeira Description: Exquisite handmade needle lace and profuse hand-embroidery. Light brown thread on ecru cotton. There is one table runner, 16" X 40" 8 place mats, 10" X 16" and 8 napkins, 16" square. This handwork, rarely seen on eBay, has its origin in China, and is called Chee Foo or sometimes Ch'ih Fu. It is nearly identical in construction to Madeira embroidered needle lace. But much finer and more complex. This is precision, master embroidery and lace, with very tightly joined floral motifs. Photo#9 points out the little stylized flying bats that are included in the design- a traditional token of good luck. We believe this pattern is called"The Great Wall" as it has a crenelated edge. Absolutely ... morestellar handwork and in very nice condition. This set was stored for many years. We find no damage. The napkins were perhaps never used- we find no stains or wear on them.
