The details on this desk are understated and elegant. The C-roll top is graced with fluted moulding on the sides and opens to reveal the interior compartment. The interior compartment consists of seven storage slots and two small fluted drawers along with two ebonized pen/pencil holders and a green felt writing surface. The base of this wonderful desk consists of five drawers that are adorned with lovely fluted moulding and burl-clad pulls. Outstanding Victorian walnut cylinder desk. This intricately detailed piece has definite Eastlake influences including a decorative grid pattern that borders the panelled sides and back and elaborate scroll decoration below the writing surface. Cylinder top conceals pigeon holes and a pull-out writing surface covered in emerald green felt. Brass hinges. Diamond-shaped escutcheons and rosette-mounted bail handle drawer pulls. One long shallow top drawers as well as three half-size drawers and a generous cabinet space. Dowel construction throughout including the drawers, top and back. The locking mechanisms in the drawers have two patent dates- April, 1875 and August, 1882. No maker's marks. Over all this piece is in very good condition. Especially considering its age. One of the back feet looks like it has been repaired. See picture. It's scale(51w x 29d x 30h) makes this desk perfect to be positioned behind a sofa or in a small study, sitting or bedroom. The back of the desk has plain finished panels so that it can be floated in the room. Separates into three parts(desk top and two pedestals) for easy moving. The top case contains three frieze drawers all with period brass locks and escutcheons(though there is no working key) each pedestal holds an additional three drawers and has plain plinth bases. The hand tooled leather top with gilt detail is surrounded by figured mahogany cross banding. The desk's most endearing feature is the fanciful drawer handles. Hand carved in the shape of ribbons. The chair measures approximately 12 3/4" wide, 12 3/4" deep. and 26 1/2" tall. The wood looks to be maple. The condition is awesome for used furniture over 80 year old. It is in excellent vintage condition and truly stunning. We removed all of the brass mounts from the legs and drawer pulls. They were all hand polished/cleaned removing years of tarnish and oxidation. We then sprayed them with a clear lacquer topcoat so they will maintain their lustre for years to come. The desk and chair were given a light restoration and cleaning. They were then both hand rubbed/polished with 2 coats of clear paste wax. The woodwork and carvings on this one are just amazing. The back topper and finials are still on this one and look original. I see no pieces of wood missing on this great desk. Has a lock. But no key for it. The side areas by the hinged top and then above the two smaller back drawers have an inlay, not sure if metal or some other type of wood. Storage for fountain pens and inkwells built in top back of desk. There is also a second shelf area down by the feet that has inlay. The inside of the desk has a nice light colored exposed wood to it. There are two small drawers on the back top(one is missing its' hardware) and then a long drawer below the hinged top. The front right leg is split near the bottom and will need repair. Hinges on top access are all in great shape. Wooden Slant Top Desk w/2 Inside Drawers
This antique wooden slant top desk opens up to reveal a storage area divided into compartments in the back. Two of which have drawers in them. The desk measures 33” wide. 23” deep and is 30 1/2” high in the front and 38 1/2” high in the back, including the back panel. It has a keyhole and some metal hardware inside but there is no key and the lid does not latch down. This desk most likely originated in the South. I do not know the age of the piece but would guess late 1800s? The inside compartments and drawers may have been added at a later date. It is not pine or oak but otherwise I am not sure what kind of wood it is made from. The outside has been stained at some point but the inside shows how light-colored the wood was originally. The piece is very sturdy and is in good condition. The finish shows its age. There are some minor scratches, ... morescuffs, etc. There are a couple of small age cracks in the lid. Antique 1800's desk slant front top or possibly a counter top desk for a country store. Etc. I believe that it's all original with the original outside finish and interior light green paint. The wood is walnut, popular back in the old days. The early desk hardware is pictured in photos# 3 and# 8. As you can see it possibly is a desk that just sat on a counter, etc. because of the way it's not finished on bottom and not much of evidence of any nails or screws holding it on to a base, so possibly a complete unit in itself and all complete. There are two glass inkwells and a space under the handle(perhaps for a blotting sponge? The drawer at the front is a handy space for paperwork. The craftsmanship is very good with dovetail joints throughout. Measures: 34 cms X 28 cms X 19 cms. The bad points: One of the feet is missing. Here is another nice functional piece. This is a Mid 19th Century French Red Leather Top Desk. It still be used for the purpose it was made for. 5 dove tailed drawers, 2 on each side and one across the middle, all with individual locks. Writting surface is covered with red leather, which has darkened with age and has some discoloration that does not take away from it's beauty. Straight tapered legs matching in front and back, all done in herring bone pattern inlay, as well as the rest of the piece. Top has a nice wood quarter inch gallery, that tapers in the front. This is a Mid 19th Century Napoleon III Boulle Bureau Plat(Bureauplat) Better yet Bronze Mounted Tortoise and Scrolling Brass Inlaid Leather Top Desk. This work of art can still be used for the purpose it was made for, however it is an eye candy with a writting surface covered in original dark(navy) blue Moroccan tooled leather(gold edges) wich has darkened with age to almost black appearance. Quality of bronze mounts is a 10+. They are classic French III Empire mounts, on the edges with saboes on the bottom. Cabriole legs matching in front and back, flanking a single drawer. Vintage Antique Desk Table Top Pocket Aneroid Barometer Visible Movement Brass
You are considering bidding on a vintage aneroid barometer. There are no visible makers marks or model numbers so it is kind of a mystery piece. It has two legs on its bottom so that it can easily be displayed on a desk or table which seems to be what it was originally created for. There is also a ring on top for wall hanging if one so chooses. There is a glass screen that covers the barometer but there is an opening in which you can see the brass mid-section that drives the needles. It measures about 3" in diameter and 1.5" thick. A narrow secretary with small rectangular(ten) pigeon holes over a wide slanted top with butterfly hinges opening to a large interior within the lower portion of the desk. Ring baluster and block turned legs. Square head nails about 1 1/4 inches long. Brass locking mechanism for lid- no key. This desk was badly damaged during a move and lovingly peiced back together. One leg very badly damaged shows glued peices. see photo six) Many nails had to be replaced. The original nails that could be used were used and not replaced. A beautiful antique roll top desk in great condition for the age. This desk measures 48.25" high at the back center. It has a width of 49.5" and a depth of 31.5" The kneehole height is 27.25" to the bottom of the cross board and the width is 29" The bottom section of the desk has four small drawers on the right side with a pullout writing surface above it. The right side has two small drawers above a larger file drawer. The divider board in this drawer is broken. There is also a pullout writing surface abov this bank of drawers. Only one of the other six drawers has a divider section in it. The remaining pieces are missing. There is a locking mechanism on the bottom section. It is a little sticky. All of the drawers have decorative fan style handles made from wood. The top section has various sized cubbies and only ... moreone drawer. There are two pencil trays that hang at the center and the section above these trays pulls out to reveal hidden trays as well. The roll top on this is in great condition and slides up and down smoothly. This section also locks with the original key. There is a vintage metal pencil sharpener attached to the top right side of this. There are age and use appropriate imperfections. Scratches, dings, and dents on this that enhance the character. There is what appears to be an inkk stain on the top and there is also some stains in the drawers. There is also age darkening to the wood.
