Vintage Sweet Grass Basket Pin Cushion c. 1930s Up for auction is a gorgeous little pin cushion basket woven with sweet grass and splint. The"cushion" is covered by faded green velvet. The velvet shows wear from usage though there are no holes in the fabric. It measures 2" across and 1 1/2" tall. It is in Excellent used condition. And is similar to those made by Northeastern Native American tribes, though I am not certain. This is for a rare antique pincushion doll. Most pincushion dolls you see are lady dolls with their skirts as the pincushion. This one looks as if to have pants instead of skirt. The face looks to be porcelain or china. But I am not doll collector and I am not sure. She has blonde curls, blue eyes, and rosy cheeks. Her body feels like silk and looks like silk but there is no tag. There is a matching silk type ribbon in a bow a the front neck. EARLY VICTORIAN SEWING BIRD WITH ORIGINAL VELVET PIN CUSHION 1860
Very nice Victorian era sewing bird with the original cranberry velvet pincushion. Fancy embossed clamp was anchored to a stand while the little bird held fabric in his beak as a guide through an early sewing machine. The cushion held the pins that kept the fabric in place. As most all early clothing and quilting were sewn by hand. These sweet little birds lent a bit of help and cheer to a woman's hard day of work. Made of an attractive and thin; but sturdy pressed metal. Beak works freely, clamp works fine. Nice original condition, circa 1860. On Feb-18-13 at 15:43:54 PST. Up for auction is a German antique half doll Victorian lady wearing her bonnet. She is made of porcelain bisque. She is quite interesting in the fact that although she is finely detailed. She has very little colour. Her eyes are outlined in brown with brown pupils. Her face is exquisitely detailed right down to her nose& nostrils. Her chin, eyes& eyebrows. She is wearing a Quaker like bonnet with a wide brim& it is tied under her chin with a big bow. She also has a big bow tied on the back of her bonnet. Photos 7& 8. Her high collar is ruffled. Embroidered Velvet Book-Shaped Needle Pin Cushion with Silk Ribbon Trim A very sweet and very old needle/pin book with front'cover' embroidered"Pins and Needles" in quaint naive style. Leading me to consider the possibility that this was done by a child. The piece is entirely hand sewn; soft black velvet was used for the cover and the interior squares which hold the needles, the aged rosy salmon-colored interior fabric has a silky feel, but I don't believe it's silk; exterior edges are trimmed in silk ribbon which has deteriorated with age. Presented as found with accompanying needles and pins. Was discovered in a bagful of items dating from the 1890's to1920's. Pennsylvania German Dutch Antique Leather Folk Art Handmade Pin Cushion RARE
RARE ANTIQUE Folk Art Pennsylvania German Leather/ Velvet Pincushion Original as Found Condition This is a RARE find/ I believe it to be a Hanging Pincushion. American/ Pensylvania 19th century. It is made of leather and velvet in an unusual( Scherenschnitte Style) form of two hearts surrounded by four birds. It measures approximately 8" x 10" and appears to be in great original condition, there is a faint crack mark in the inner leather piece under the larger heart, but is NOT cracked through and all stitching is intact. It is in Great condition for it's age! The front leather is a tan color with different color stitching around, the lower cutout has a leather piece that fits in( not sure what for) The birds all have red painted eyes and the two lower birds have red velvet wings. the larger heart still has it's navy blue ... morevelvet cover with sawdust filling the upper heart has no fabric the remnants appear that the fabric was a turquoise blue. The back which is leather is painted red and the edges still hold remnants of bright yellow paint. I think the pics show it all. This is a RARE find I could only find one other, it sold at Garth's Auctions in Ohio in 1990, it was sale# 1068/ Lot# 55 which sold for $1939.00. Black Starr& Frost silver hallmarked pin cushion box# 230 repousse heart shape. The heart is 3.5" in diameter. Very beautifully detailed repousse work. Made by Black Starr& Frost between 1876 and 1929 when they merged with Gorham. They were America's first jeweler in 1810. They exhibited at the Centennial Celebration along with Tiffany in Philladelphia in 1876 and at NY Worlds Fair in 1939. They were known for their figural pin cushions up until around 1920's. Here is another Over the top Pincushion from my collection. This one is made of gold silk satin fabric and has a border of fabulous embroidered lace on netting. It looks like it is machine made lace. The cushion is about 8 inches x 9 inches and the lace is 3 inches wide. It is gathered at the corners and is an ecru almost a tea dyed color. The front of the cushion is stitched with the letters A L H. There are tiny blue flowers embroidered in each letter. It is all hand made. There is a little bit of soiling on the front which is to be expected. There is a small mystery stain about the size of a penny. It is fairly light. There is some wear in the form of pin holes. And again that would be normal. I am not sure what it is stuffed with. It is also in very good condition. IT is about 3.50 inches tall. I love this piece. Its shaped like a heart and it appears to be a nice vintage piece. It said pin cushion on the tag. Its done in a beige color with yellow satin ribbon and I love the lace around the piece. Great gift for valentines day. Its 8" high and at the widest point its 6 1/2. I like all the detail between the crochet I think that's right. The ribbon the lace and the way they folded the design on the ribbon. Neat. Thanks for looking.

RARE Museum Quality Antique Pin Cushion WOW!!
This little gem is a very early double pincushion with a pair of carved shoes that sit atop a carved oak box with a drawer. I believe the shoes are carved of wood but they have a lacquer finish that makes them look like they are made of bone.The bottom of the heels of the shoes are definitely wood. The eyelets on the shoes are the tiniest brass nails and thread is tightly strung for the laces. The cushions themselves were velvet but are worn(no tears though) The box is made of oak. the top and bottom are attached but the sides of the box are carved out of one piece of wood. The drawer sides are also carved out of one piece of wood.It measures 5.5" long by 3" wide and is 4" tall. The shoes are attached with a screw from inside the box. They are flat head screws that are pretty shiny so either because they are inside the box ... morethey have not oxidized or the box was repaired at some time. I don't see ANY damage or signs of repairs. This piece is so unique that it will grace any collection!

Has a great country look and would be perfect in a group of country sewing smalls. It is nicely formed with scallops at the top and a nicely shaped heel. The velvet is a very dark brown. Almost black, but most of the velvet has worn off and the under part of the velvet is a nice warm brown. It is 3 1/4" tall and 2 3/4" wide at the foot portion. This would probably date from the late 1800s and is in good condition for the age. There is wear on the velvet on one side and there is a break at the top on the other side.
