1969 Catalog Model Building Kits Planes, Rockets, Military, Vehicles-Monogram Co
Monogram was one of the leading model kit companies when I was building models in the late 1950s and early 1960s. This is a foldup 12-panel catalog including the complete air. Space and military line of models in 1969. Monogram and I suspect other companies issued small pocket size catalogs that were handed out at shows and inserted in model boxes. This specific catalog is Monogram's non-auto line of kits, with emphasis on both military and small airplanes, plus lots of things that fly-and fast. Airplane model kits numbered 58. By far the biggest emphasis in this catalog. It also has 10 military ground kits and then an assortment of military and nonmilitary boats. There are even rockets and the acclaimed visionary Space Buggy model that was first issued in the'50s. I recall vividly building this one probably around 1959-60. It was ... morethe model designers image of a shuttle that would fly in space, to the moon. It looked a lot like a flying submarine and this one came with astronauts that could be attached for space walks. Interestingly, while the shape was nothing like the real shuttle, the idea and the elements were remarkably similar as envisioned by the company years before it was reality. They even made kits(jet plane and a helicopter model) that were equipped with batteries and motors. You couldn't make'em fly but they sounded real. This is a great lot of N Scale train cars and locomotives. There are two union pacific locomotives 1 in original pkg is Life-Like brand and the 1 that is loose is an Arnold rapido made in West Germany(missing the front wheels) Also 1 AT&SF switcher. There are 2 cabooses, 3 tanker cars, 17 freight cars, 2 building kits(country cottage and what I believe to be a church) and 1 misc pack of electrical poles and signs. Spreaders- All Hand-made according to exact specs on Robert O'Brien's DVD. They will work with your mold exactly. I made 3 OM guitars using these. But am now retiring from making any more. All braces are 1.5" thick. They are designed to be able to be removed after the top glue-up though the sound hole.
