The dress has seamed cuffs on the 3/4 length sleeves and a patch pocket on the side of the bodice. Victorian Italianate house, wrap-around porches, architectural floor plans
In the late 1840s. When Queen Victoria and Prince Albert decided to build themselves a country house, they found the perfect spot on the Isle of Wight and commissioned Thomas Cubitt to design and build a classic villa in the Italianate Style. This set off a huge fashion for the Italianate across the UK and the USA. Suddenly roof slopes were reduced, porches started spreading and square shaped towers sprouted everywhere. The Merriman-Wynne house charmingly wears the clothing of the Italianate Style, lacking only a tower. It is particularly generous with its porches and has many intriguing woodwork details throughout. Sadly, the house was demolished in 1967, but maybe somewhere out there someone will see these beautiful photos and drawings and be inspired to build a new home modeled after it. As a work of art these prints are worth purchasing ... morein their own right. For those of you interested in building a historically inspired house. These plans offer an excellent starting point. Stepping up onto the generous front porch you pass into an entry that stretches clear through the house to the equally generous back porch. A lovingly detailed stair rises up on the right. Behind the stairs lies a study with a generous bay window alcove. On the left are a series of room, Living, Dining, Kitchen, Bath and Bedroom. The details of these arrangements could easily be altered to accommodate personal requirements. For instance the locations of the bedroom and kitchen could be swapped. The upper floor comprises 2 bedrooms and a bath. A spiral staircase leads up to the widow's walk on the roof of the house. Imagine the views from up there!
