VINTAGE SOUTH BEND 7'6" SPLIT BAMBOO SALTWATER ROD, SIMILAR TO HEDDON NO. 44
This no-reserve auction features an ultra rare. Circa 1930s, South Bend 7-1/2 foot split bamboo saltwater rod in excellent overall condition. It's a heavy duty one-piece rod with an extremely rare dowel-style handle, and it has a knurled nickel silver male ferrule on the butt end of the rod section(indeed, a dowel-style handle is even rare on vintage Heddon saltwater rods, with only the heavy duty no. 44"Reef Rod" having one) The South Bend model number, 2V6022, was hand written in black India ink by the maker at the factory, and the South Bend decal is wholly in tact, with only a couple of fish scales appearing over the top of it. The handle section measures 21-3/4" has a metal butt cap affixed, and the wooden portion was made of stained oak. The up-locking heavy duty reel seat has an outside diameter of 1-1/16" and ... moreis chrome plated. The fore grip is also made from stained wood and measures 5-1/4" The one-piece split bamboo rod section has an overall length of 69-1/8" is straight, and the male ferrule on its butt end was made of knurled nickel silver(please see the last picture) Moreover, the ferrule fits very tightly into the handle section. As noted above, the overall length when assembled is 7-1/2 feet. The guides appear to have been made of plated nickel silver, and they are all present and in great shape. The rod is also entirely factory original, including its varnish. The original blood-red silk guide wraps are all there, too, but two of them have become brittle with age and have come undone. They could easily be rewrapped, though. The bamboo of the rod section is in excellent overall condition with no cracks, gouges, or delamination. Simply put, I don't think a finer example of this ultra rare saltwater rod could ever be found, and it is apparent that it didn't see much use. This rod would also make an excellent big-fish freshwater rod-especially for strippers or big cats-and it is definitely cast-able. The winning bidder agrees to pay a flat economy rate of $20.

Bamboo Fly Rod South Bend - 2 Piece, 7foot, 2tips ready to fish
Please note that even though there are no markings on this rod it is a Vintage South Bend split bamboo fly rod in good used condition. The"Comeficient" grip with its thumb indentation and"Ventilation grooves" were unique to South Bend rods. This is a 2 section rod with an extra tip. All sections original and equal length of 42 inches each for a total length of 7 feet. All of the hardware is original and in good condition. The hook keeper, one guide and the bases of each ferrule have been re-wrapped. The rod has the patented"Comeficient" grip with"Ventilation Grooves" cork handle in good condition. The reel seat is the Patented"Lite-Lock" reel seat in red Bakelite with. An up-locking seat in fully workable and good condition. This seat was introduced in 1942. The rod is wrapped in green jasper ... morewraps. An illustration of a very similar South Bend rod may be found on page 180 of Michael Sinclair's book, Bamboo Rod Restoration Handbook.I would place this rod in time at circa 1950. ANTIQUE SOUTH BEND VACUUM LURE IN TOUGHER COLOR
The origianal Howe Vacuum Bait was patented in 1909. South Bend Bait. Co. picked up the patent shortly after. In fact, it was so early in South Bend's history that the number for this lure is No. 3 Standard Vacuum denoting the red spotted with yellow and black dots. It's fairly hard to find these in good condition, mostly because they were a top water fish catcher and usually found heavily fished. This one has age running through with a few small flakes overal, the hardware is clean, the paint is all there. Not much else to say, this is one of the harder colors to find for this lure, buy it! South Bend Heavy 10 Gearbox complete with Banjo Gears
Here is a South Bend Heavy 10 single tumbler gearbox with banjo and sliding gear set as removed from a scrapped school lathe in the 70's. This box is in excellent original condition with one overcoat of school grey paint. The data plate is faded from long storage but completely readable. All oilers are present and all gears are clean and square. There is a small patch of old pitting on the outboard side of the sliding gear handle but it is cosmetic only.Does not affect use. Ready to bolt on and use or refinish to mint. Shipping is actual cost on this item.
