South Bend 9" x 30" Bench Top Lathe Model 482 XB w/ Bench
Up for your consideration is a South Bend model#482 XB with a 9" swing. 2 1/2' bed, lathe serial#41215. There is approximately 1 foot of working length between centers. The spindle bore is approximately 13/16" It has a quick change gear box, forward/reverse, and the original horizontal countershaft assembly(item in back of lathe flat belt rides on) The overall condition is good, some minor surface rust. The cross slide screw is slightly bent, but functions fine. It is missing two crank handles. It comes with a Craftsman 8" 4 jaw, 1 1/2 x 8 thread chuck, with key and original box; a Horton 7 1/2" 3 jaw model 34-C chuck(no key) two tool posts/holders; three dead centers; and a morse taper tool holder. It is mounted on a heavy table with cast iron legs. One leg has been repaired with a mending plate. The original Westinghouse ... more1/4 hp single phase 1725 rpm motor runs, but it sparks and will need some attention so I am including a Baldor 1/2 hp single phase 1725 rpm motor. The leather belt is in good condition. The v-belt is a little frayed. This is the first South Bend lathe I have seen in this size with a quick change gear box. Please ask any questions you might have. Make sure to look at the other lathe that I currently have listed. I prefer this to be picked up and I will load on your truck for free. The top one is Western Tool& Mfg co Springfield ohio-it is@ 7" long-pitted and a bit rusty and worn and has a large chip out of the bottom The second one is an Armstrong No. 1-9 heavily pitted. The third is stamped PA again worn. Pitted etc.priced accordingly. The previous owner told me it was from 1937 but I don't have verification of that. Local pick-up available. RARE ORIGINAL SOUTH BEND 9 10K LATHE PEDESTAL LEG MOUNT COUNTERSHAFT CAST IRON
Rare and Very Nice- Original South Bend cast iron single pedestal leg countershaft assembly. This unit is mounted to the floor directly behind a South Bend 9" lathe headstock. Countershaft assembly stands 42 3/4" high to the center of the pulley shaft. The base plate is 8 1/2" wide x 5 1/4" deep. Entire unit is 12" wide without the pulley guard. Extremely heavy. Cast iron pedestal mounted countershaft. The guard is also extremely heavy, which is the orignial guard for the unit. There is a swing arm section with two clamps that mount to the back of your lathe bed. The countershaft assembly is adjustable by using the two turnbuckle adjusters. Your three step countershaft cone or v belt cone can be installed on the shaft of this unit. The shaft is easily removable and the bearings seem to be in fine order. Pulley shaft ... moreis 7/8" diameter. The large pulley is 10" diameter. This is only the second one of these that I have yet to see. Due to the weight and size of this unit, it will need be shipped in two seperate cartons. One being the main body of the unit, the second would be the swivel base, swing arm and guard.
