What's happening is that the idler pulley hub bushing(or the stud) has enough play to cause the 2 blades to slip out of position(instead of overlapping they end up edge to edge) Electrically it works as intended: variable speed. Reversing, double insulated. Only one edge and the teeth on the powered blade show some wear. The 2 blades are identical/interchangeable.

A local Sheet Metal job shop has recently purchased new equipment in order to accept production work. As a result some of the machinery presently being used will be released for disposition. This was used to shear primarily 16 and 18 gauge sheet metal. I was told that the actual capacity is 14 gauge but i did not see the shear in operation so I have no way to verify that. The shear is equipped with front sheet supports and a spring loaded hold down bar. The(2) bars for the back gauge are mounted on the rear of the shear but there is no carrier or stop bar. American ingenuity on display. I think this is a bench mount shear which someone dreamed up and made happen. Tool will cut thin sheet tin strips up to 6" or so wide. Front legs want to move. So it needs to be bolted down. I think it's as much art as a tool. Unit measures +/ 35-1/2"h(handle up) x 20"l x 8"w. The handle appears to be off of an old piece of farm equipment. Untested. Pexto 20"? #220 Foot Shear Tinsmith Armor Hot Rod Metal Working Blacksmith Sheet
You are bidding on a used JUMP SHEAR made by PEXTO MANUFACTURING of SOUTHINGTON CONNECTICUT. The brass tag on the machine states it is a Model 220, there is another number on the tag that I assume is a serial number#1048270. The shear was in very good condition before I sanded and restored it with a fresh coat of paint. The shear is small and will fit into a crowded shop. I put locking casters on it so you can move it around and out of the way. The overall dimensions are 34" wide, 45" high, and 24" depth. The maximum width of sheet metal you can cut is 20" I did not adjust or sharpen the cutting blades. My guess for the weight of the shear would be approximately 250-350 pounds. BEVERLY B-2 SHEET METAL THROATLESS FABRICATION SHEAR
Great Beverly B-2 Shear with original handle. Screwed up when I tried to remove the bolt for the handle and twisted it off. I didn't want to spray any oils on and thought it would be easier for photography and shipping. Wrong. Not a big problem the hole is tapped all the way through so a quick fix would be to use the other side or drill and extract the start the tap to chase the threads from the other side. I have seen a few of these listed and many this size are missing their original handle. Cutter and anvil are straight and chip free, could use a little cleaning and oil on the moving surface. Here is a very nice. Very rare, older pair of BERRIDGE SHEAR CO. TIN SNIPS or SHEARS. The shears measure 10" overall and they weigh about 1 lb. The cutting blades of the jaws measure 3" from the pivot point to the tip. On one side is stamped"BERRIDGE SHEAR CO. STURGIS, MICH. FORGED STEEL" The shears are in very nice. Clean condition. There are a few minor strike marks, but no dings, cracks, or gouges. The blades have a few small dings(See Pictures) There is no rust or pitting. The shears appear to have been buffed at some point(not polished) Perhaps to remove dirt and surface rust. These are older. Probably early 1900's. for auction is a vintage Metal cutting bench mount shear. It is in as found condition. It is in good working condition. I have tested it on some brass and aluminum. It cuts well. I am sorry I have no steel to test it on. The tool is marked Patented Nov 8 1909. I see no makers name. And I can not find the patent to find out the manufacturers name. It does have a Letter K inside a circle. It is also marked with the number 5. I think this might be a model number. The cutters are sharp. the guillotine moving cutter is about 2 3/4' long. The throat is about 3' deep. I do not know what the maximum gauge this cutter can cut. The tool weighs just about 13 pounds as pictured.
