HUGE VINTAGE REED MACHINIST VISE 105 1/2 with 5 1/2" jaws 101lbs opens to 9"
This vintage Reed Mfg. No. 105 1/2 Machinist or Blacksmith vise operates smoothly. It opens and closes as it should. The vise is very heavy and weighs right at 102 pounds according to my scale. The Jaws are 5 1/2 inches wide and I opened them to 9 inches but they still could be opened up a bit more. I could not find much on this model number. The handle that is on the vise is not the original I don't think but I am not sure. The ends of the handle were taped when I acquired the vise. This would make a nice addition to someones collection and it should clean up very nicely. Shipping is calculated at a weight of 105 pounds boxed up to your specific location. REFINISHED: Vintage Craftsman Tilting Drill Press Vise Machinist Mill 2 Axis
This Craftsman Drill Press vise has 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" hard steel jaws which open to a distance of 2 1/2" The vise weighs in at just under 9 1/2 Lbs. which is beefy for a vise this size. Completely closed the vise is 9" Long. It stands 3 1/2" tall and is 4" wide. It is definitely well made. Everything works wonderfully smooth on it. No issues at all. There is one battle scar on it when somebody's drill bit went a tad to far. You can see this in the very last photo of the gallery. The fact that a vise this age has only one hole in it is pretty much amazing in my book. This vise came from Craftsman's Crown Logo era which screams out the 1970's to me. The decal was trashed along with the paint so it came off too. The word Craftsman is stamped into the side however. Although in terrific physical condition ... morethis vise was dirty and the paint was wasted from decades of being in a shop environment. It needed a complete makeover with nothing spared. That's what it received too. I stripped it down. Chased all the threads, both female and male, with taps& dies. I left most of it bare because of the nature of the work these kinds of vises see however the base was sprayed with satin black enamel which was baked on and should hold up decently well. All of the machined surfaces were given extra attention to make sure they're precisely smooth and perfectly fitting. The jaws are in outstanding condition showing only very light signs of use. All of this shows when you go to use this vise, you'll never regret having it I promise. I sincerely hope you enjoy using this beautiful vise. They were well made and built to last. This vise has been used and has some issues. But still has plenty of life left. The jaws and screw are in very good condition. The area in question is the vise nut and the groove it fits into. The nut is loose and can slide back and forth about 1/4 of an inch and and move side to side. Some metal has broken off the edge of the channel. The handle has to be turned two revolutions before changing directions. I believe this can be fixed adding a large washer to the screw. Vintage Desmond Simplex No. 400 OHIO swivel machinist mechanics vise 4 inch jaw!
Up for bidding is a very clean example of a Desmond Simplex No. 400 vise. It was part of an estate find and kept indoors. It has been spray painted red. Original color was red also and due to age there was a fine layer of surface rust ONLY. Vise was cleaned in kerosene and the handles and exposed surfaces such as the jaws and anvil top were lightly hand sanded to remove the rust. The vise was dismantlement and spray painted. 3 coats of time with 6-8hrs of curing time in between. There are no issues with the vise whatsoever. The jaws are nice and tight, no cracks, cut/scratch marks are visible on the side of the jaws, a little chi here and there from normal use. The only issue I can see is that when you close shut the jaws, there is a small gap on one side of the jaw(1/16" gap. Nothing to worry about as it does not affect performance, ... morethe vise grips very well. If want to get rid of the gap, just open screw on the gap side of the jaw and shim behind it, you will than have them alined. This is a very fine example. She swivels and locks in tight. Weighs at around 25 Ib. Jaw size- 4" max opening- 4.75" 5.5"threaded end is only half in the nut) 360 dgrees swivel VISE CAN ACCOMMODATE SECONDARY JAWS for holding pipes. It did not come with any replaceable jaws but the slot and grub screws are there.

My research shows the Crusader tool line was made for and distributed by Belknap Hardware(founded in 1840 in Louisville. Kentucky and closed in 1986) The Crusader line was produced starting in 1935. Vintage Wilton Bullet. Date stamp reads 1/79. Jaws measure 3" wide, opens 5 1/2" weighs just over 25lbs. VICE HAS A CRACK. You will see in pics, actually cracked on both sides at base of vise. One side has a piece broken off. You will see this in pics. Despite the cracks, vise appears to be in very good condition, everything working as expected.
