antique very rare 1800's handmade copper steel pepper mill grinder shaker stamp
this is a very rare antique completely handmade brass and steel pepper mill grinder from the 1800's it is an exquisite very early design that is actually still used today. Every piece of this grinder is completely hand fabricated and crafted. the actual grinder is made from steel and the gears are all hand cut. the shaft is a steel square rod that turns the grinder gears. it would have has a detachable handle that attached to the square shaft on the top. the shell is made from brass and has exquisite etched detailing. It comes apart at the middle where the crushed pepper would be stored. it has a great patina from age. it does have some dents. Dings, and cracks, refer to all pics it measures 11 1/2 inches tall and has some nice weight. very rare piece. After spending a year in the Old World, Busch, Sr. came back to fulfill his plan to build an authentic European mill in St. Louis. Upon returning to St. Louis, August Busch, Sr. picked a location at Gravois Road and Morganford as it was halfway between and his home. Construction on the mill started in 1915 and was completed a year later for only $250.000 and was named for the malt drink that Anheuser-Busch was making at the time. The rest of the restaurant was opened in 1917. The windmill part of the mill measures out at 60 feet in diameter and is set on a 24 inch shaft. Smyth, Dealer in General Merchandise, Mill and Mining Supplies to someone in Carson City, NV. Small letterhead(about 5 1/2" by 4 1/2" See pictures for detailed condition. Empire City originally sprang up to take care of the ore-crushing needs of Comstock. Its proximity to water(the Carson River) made it the ideal place to build the mills to crush ore. It later served as a main source of lumber. Trees were floated from the Tahoe Basin. Cut and shaped in Empire, then shipped up to Virginia City. Little but the cemetery remains today. Now known as Faribault Woolen Mill, it was the first woolen mill to introduce a stadium blanket with the introduction of the Pak-A-Robe in 1949. These rugged throws are designed to be used outdoors and are naturally soil repellent. Dirt and debris can simply be brushed away returning the throw to like-new condition. Faribault pioneered the use of machines to create the distinctive rolled fringe used on this blanket. Many have copied the technique.
