U.S. ARMY COMBAT SURGICAL KIT MINOR SURGERY (9 instruments)
This kit(NATHAN PRODUCTS CORP. came out of an estate sale of a former army helicopter pilot. I am not sure which war the kit came from. It appears to be complete with 9 instruments and a pocket full of blades. Needles and thread still in sealed packets. Among the instruments, is a silver probe that is marked STERLING. Petz, Antique surgery machine, vintage instrument, complete set - No reserve
Antique suturing apparatus. With its case, and parts. This surgical instrument was precision made of steel. Accompanying miscellaneous parts were made of the same material. From what I have read, it is relatively rare is to find a kit like this, that is complete, and includes the case. The largest piece is a complicated clamp instrument, roughly 15' long. The rest of parts attach to the clamp in various ways. They are used to service it, adjust it, and to aid in its function. It hasn't been rigorously tested, but it appears to be mechanically sound. I am not sure the date of the tool kit. Some parts of the kit contain stainless steel. Which wasn't manufactured widely until at least 1914, so it is surely post-1914. It comes with a superb, solid hardwood case, with interlocking dadoed corners, and with brass trim and hardware. It ... moremeasures 16 3/4' long, 5 1/2' wide, and 6' high, and is very solid and strong. A high degree of care, skill and labour went into its manufacture. The case interior has racks to hold and store the tool and its parts. It is divided into three compartments. The middle compartment is covered with its own lid with handle. he first systematic textbook of surgery written in the United States. The Elements of Surgery, was completed in 1813 by John Syng Dorsey, a University of Pennsylvania surgeon. The work thoroughly covered all major clinical areas of surgery of that time in a two-volume, 797-page text. Subsequent editions were published in 1818, 1823, and 1831. It became the standard surgical textbook in this country during that era and was the first American medical text exported abroad for use at the more established European centers of medical education. The reasons for writing the text included a desire to put into print the teachings of Philip Syng Physick(first Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, and Dorsey's uncle) the new American nationalism, and socioeconomic pressures forced on the American publishing industry ... moreby the War of 1812 and preceding trade embargoes. In addition to extensive exposure to Physick, Dorsey was also uniquely qualified to write and illustrate this text, as he exhibited an unusually succinct style and was a remarkable medical artist. The book was the forerunner to William Gibson's The Institutes and Practice of Surgery and all American surgical textbooks to follow. Aside from some fire damage at the marginal edge of the first six pages of Vol. 1 both volumes are remarkably nice. The bindings are strong and the pages uniformly foxed.

Durham University; senior surgeon, Northumberland War Hospital) and published in London by Henry Frowde and Hodder& Stoughton. It is one of the books in a series of books titled the Oxford War Primers. This historical book was written during a time in which our world was at war, such a time called for new advancements in many fields, especially that of surgery and wound treatment. As quoted from the book: Wound treatment during the last twenty years had reached such perfection that surgeons had almost concluded that they were masters of the situation when the War came and awakened them to reality. About the Author: James Rutherford Morison was a British surgeon who was a native ... moreof County Durham. In 1874. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh, and as a young man was an assistant and"surgical dresser" to Joseph Lister(1827-1912) Later, he became a surgeon at the Newcastle Royal Infirmaryand a professor at the University of Durham. 1967 Vietnam Era Military Surgical Instrument Set (Minor Surgery)
We are offering a a U.S. Military minor surgery field kit from the Vietnam era. The 7 x 3 1/2 inch military pouch opens to 7 x 9 in 3 compartments. Included in the set are 3(three) hemostats. 2(two) 5in long needles for sewing up wounds, a small pair of scissors(not correct to era) a stainless steel scalpel handle and a slot for a pair of tweezers(missing from set) In the end compartment is a pack of sterile scalpel blades and a sterile package of braided silk sutures. Case and contents are in very good shape and the outside of the pouch has the logo of the U.S. Military Medical Corps on it.Serial numbers and dates are still visible in the green material.
