Antique Sewing Lot Needle Books, Thread Holder
LOT OF ANTIQUE SEWING NEEDLE BOOKS. THREAD HOLDER. This auction is for 3 antique needle books and a brass thread holder. The needle books each measure about 3 1/4" at their widest areas. The first is round with scalloped edges and is decorated with a hand painted orange. It has red wool insides with 2 needles stuck in. I'd guess this to be from about 1900. The second needle book has cardboard covers with cutout paper flowers. The inside is soft blue flannel and has a needle and row of pins stuck in it. This was found in a 1930's doll trunk. The third needle book is of colorful silk with embroidered edged flannel inside. I'd guess this to be 1890's era. The thread holder is made of brass stamped with a basket weave pattern. Antique Carved Vegetable Ivory Needle Holder & Thread Holder ? NR
This is an antique carved vegetable ivory needle case. It may hold a small spool of thread in the bottom compartment too. I'm not sure. There is a small hole in the side of the bottom compartment( see last photo) This may be intentional to let thread through rather than damage, I'm not sure. It's fairly large and I thought it may have been to hold a thimble too but I can't quite fit a thimble into it. The case unscrews into 3 pieces. It measures 3 3/8" high and is approx. 1 3/8" in diameter at it's widest point. It is in very good condition with minor nicks and there is that fore-mentioned little hole in the bottom section which may or may not be damage. Overall though a fine example and being offered with No Reserve. High bid pays postage.

The bone frame is in excellent condition but it is missing, I'm estimating about 20% of its beads. It's such a pretty thing this isn't apparent until you look closer.
