This auction is for an 1860 era antique straight razor. Marked: WADE& BUTCHER- SHEFFIELD- and there remnants of an etching on the blade but too faint too read due to some sharpening marks. This famous old razor has a notched point wedge blade that is 1/32" short of being 1/4" thick. It has a very dark buffalo horn handle and overall is in very good condition with no rust, chips, or cracks and will shave the hair off of my arm. The blade measures 3" by 13/16" and the total weight in the storage box is 3 oz. The storage box is not the original and is marked: R. Here's a vintage Sakai Shigemitsu Japanese knife with a wooden handle. The blade is.25" deep. The knife is 12.25" long, and the blade is 2" wide. The Japanese characters and words"Saikai Shigemitsu Japan" are on the side of the blade and there is also Japanese characters on the handle. More information about this knife: Much high-quality Japanese cutlery originates from Sakai. The capital of samurai sword manufacturing since the 14th century. After the Meiji Restoration, the carrying of swords by the samurai class was banned as part of an attempt to modernise Japan. Though demand for military swords remained and some swordsmiths still produced traditional samurai swords as art, the majority of swordsmiths refocused their skill to cutlery production.
