1800's Antique Millinery Carved Folk Art Wood Hat Head Form Phrenology Mannequin
Today we are auction off a rare find we recently made. Antique Folk art wood carved head form that was primarily used by a hat maker/milliner. Could even have served as a mannequin head at one time. What struck us about this piece is that the form closely resembles the style of Phrenology busts. The carved eyes. Nose and mouth are a wonderful example of antique American Folk Art! This piece most likely dates to 3rd or 4th quarter 19th century. The wood is very light in weight and is possibly basswood but we are not exactly sure. Norman Kartiganer Unused Vintage Auburn Wig AND Styrofoam Faceless Head Wig Form
Circa 1960's and 1970's the name Norman Kartiganer was synonymous with wig designs and Styrofoam wig or hat forms where the faceless wig or hat form became one of his signature designs. In the early 1960's Kartiganer created a wig company called Jiffy Wig that was owned by the Kartiganer Hat Corporation Inc. where the suggested wig hairdos in the line were by Mr. Nino of Bellissima Coiffeurs. N.Y. A very fashionable stylist at the time where the Bouffant and the Oliver styles were all the rage. The color of the wig is Auburn that is still in its original plastic bags with the original Jiffy Wig by Kartiganer tags still attached. The wig or hat form has a 22" head circumference Styrofoam head form for wig styling or hat making with the following dimensions 11"H x 6"W x 7"D. Styrofoam allows you to pin and re-pin ... moreover and over again. Convenient rubber. Suction base sets the head in place for efficient styling. Perfect for storing those vintage hats too!
