A 19TH CENTURY KNITTED BABY BONNET & A LATER CHILD'S BONNET
A 19th century cream knitted baby bonnet for a newborn which is worked in the finest thread(like fine sewing thread) The back has an eight pointed star pattern and the edges a flat cable. The brim is a pinecone pattern with insertion worked into it. Presumably for ribbo n. The knitting is incredibly even and neat and I am not sure what the thread is. But suspect it is either linen or silk. It is not in the best condition, there are two small holes at the top and the edges of the brim are damaged where the ribbons would be and there is a small area that is unravelled at the edge of the brim. However. It is a very pretty bonnet and an example of very fine knitting. Also a simple cotton bonnet for a child with a ricrac braid edging to the brim and a tightening cord at the back.
