Vacuum Cleaning Machine VINYL RECORD ALBUM CLEANER equiv to NITTY GRITTY 1.0
This is a used Record Doctor manual-spin vacuum record cleaning machine. I sold my turntable. Otherwise I would still be using it, since I have found that only the vacuum method works well, and this is the only one that does not cost $400 or more. This is very similar to the Nitty Gritty 1.0 machine, in fact I have found the parts to be interchangeable. It needs a small amount of work in order to use it. The spindle(that goes through the hole in the record) has snapped off. It can be easily fixed by one of two methods- 1) really good epoxy or super glue, or 2) the spindle is hollow, so a slender screw extending into the spindle and screwed into the base would do the trick(in fact, conceivably, a perfectly sized screw could take the place of the spindle) Note that I am very short of time at the moment, otherwise I would fix it myself prior ... moreto selling. What is one of the most annoying things about those plastic slabs of music? The clicks and pops that come from dirt embedded into the surface, that's what. If you play the record while it's dirty, two things will happen- your stylus will get gunked up, and the debris will get pounded into the grooves, pock marking the music. But not if you use the VPI HW-17. This is an automatic record cleaner. Which puts the special cleansing fluid on the record, then vacuums it off, along with the dust, pet hairs, and bits of old truck tires that can be found on lps, especially the thrift shop kind. I estimate I've cleaned about 400 lps on it. The veneer around the edges is raised a little from it getting wet but doesn't affect the performance in any way. It works great and has many years of life left. The vacuum is as strong as when I bought it. It may need to have the brush replaced in the near future. FISHER 500 PUSH PULL 6L6 RECEIVER This Fisher 500 monaural AM FM receiver is in good condition both cosmetically and functionally. This is from just before stereo was introduced and represents Fisher’s highest end products of that time. It is untouched as far as restoration. I brought it up to voltage on a variac and it works well with no perceptible hum. That shouldn’t be misinterpreted to mean that this shouldn’t be restored. It is common practice with tube electronics of this vintage to be restored electronically if the intent is to use them. This entails cleaning all the switches and contacts. Checking all the tubes, and replacing all the electrolytic capacitors as well as at least some of the paper capacitors in places where it affects the sound or the current draw of the tubes/ bias.
