This remarkable function generator offers sine, triangle, square wave, positive pulse and negative pulse outputs, with user selectable 50 and 600 Ohm Output impedances. In addition it offers single shot, burst and sweep modes, as well as amplitude and frequency modulation. You can see its user manual at. I have used this PM 5134 as a bench instrument but have not had it calibrated. And so cannot vouch for its precision, but it does put out a wide range of waveforms as you can see from the output measured on my PC based digital scope. I have exercised it over its entire bandwidth, and while the square waves at high frequency are not as clean as the square waves at low frequencies(that said, it’s cleaner when the output impedance ... moreis set to 50 Ohms) it’s been more than good enough for my purposes. This was a very innovative(and extremely expensive) device when Philips(later Fluke) introduced it, and it continues to be a good workhorse. If I remember right, its list price when new was on the order of $3,000. The only real problem I have with it is that one of the potentiometers(for the start frequency of the frequency sweep) is jammed tight. Though it is possible to sweep the frequency via a voltage applied to the BNC connector at the back. However, this was never very important to me, and I simply ignored it. I did once have an overheating problem(one of the driver transistors in the output stage overheated and failed, and I therefore replaced it, and also added two small fans to push cool air into the enclosure. The power for the fans is taken from the power supply at the rear.
