Vintage Fender Bassman 70 tube amp head, Taos Amp Modded, Blackface + 2 channels
Not much is known about this strange and rare beast. I bought it from the original owner. Who had the amp modded in the 80's by"Taos Amp. There is literally no documentation about this guy, as it is believed he died before there was even a world wide web. What I can tell you about this amp is that it is a Fender Bassman 70 made sometime between 77 and 83. It is loud enough to deafen almost anyone. It sounds like Angus Young when you crank it up. The right channel is black-faced and has a master volume. The left channel has been reworked to feed into the right channel as a foot-switchable dirt/boost stage. The foot switch and cable are included. It's truly brilliant. Exhilarating, chaotic and amazing. This thing is a best-case scenario for the Bassman 70. which other than being loud and"clean" is a lifeless. Honky and ... moreregrettable rock and roll machine. With the Taos mods, this amp is a fire-breathing dragon, capable of cranked black-face and plexi tones at drummer-destroying volume. Everything works and sounds good. The tubes are NOS. And I have no idea how long they've been in use for. The previous owner said he no longer gigged the amp, and hadn't gigged it since the late 80's He just fooled around with it in his home studio every so often. I have taken it to a few practices and a few shows and it's done extremely well. You SHOULD take it to a tech to get a once-over as it may need a bias adjust or something else. All OpAmps are the true Rayathon 4739DB IC chips. The amp actually has some extra replacement chips taped to the inside of the cabinet if needed in the future. This amp is being sold as needs work. Not fully functional. The amp displays the following behaviors: The control knobs are noisy and cut in and out as they are rotated thru their sweep. The amp makes a pop thru the speakers(seems louder than normal) when powered on and off. As you can see in the images. This amp is as near original condition as any you are likely ... moreto find. It appears to have been well cared for and shows no signs of poorly done repairs in its past. The Amp looks OEM down to the specific(3.1 impedence load) speakers for this model. The inside of the amp revels the OEM batting, cable retainers, wire ties, and reverb tank all undistrubed. Not sure how long the amp was out of service before I replaced the power supply capacitors returning it to service. I would say by its condition. It has seen very little use. The speaker surrounds are tight and show no signs of having been over driven or is their any burnt odor of an overheated voice coil. Again. The amp looks original except for the following: The OEM Foam Speaker cover has been replaced with a higher quality strong(more puncture resistant) weave speaker grill material. The power supply capacitors have been replaced with identical specification and size Mallory units. All functions work. Both channels can be used independently or together. The Reverb. Tremolo, Distortion and all tone control functions work. The slid and toggle switches also function and change the sound accoring to the setting. This amp will be sold as not fully functional.
