This item is in good-used condition with an awesome patina. It was definately used alot. As evidenced by the various dings, knicks, etc. that are on it- is gives it an awesome vintage look. It was made by M. Hey Manufacturing Company that was located at 637 N. 3rd Street in Philadelphia, PA(see pic) The spigot by itself weighs 3 lb 8-1/2 oz. The handle on the top still turns and if you blow in it when closed, no leaking air is evident, but when you continue to blow and turn the handle, the air escapes.it still works, though I do not know if it would hold liquid without dripping. The wood is approx. 1/2 to 3/4" thick. The barrel measures 8 3/4" high, 6 1/2" across ends, approx. 8" through middle, and weighs just over 5 lbs. It has a rich clear coat finish, and red on both ends. Four steel bands also have clear coat finish, I'm sure steel because there are a couple very small areas that have begun to rust, minor) The inside has a very thick coating of something, I do not know what, can see reflection of it in 6th photo. The brass spigot is approx. 4 1/2" has a bit of vintage patina, and turns like new. The pressure valve on top is 2 3/4" Has a stand, 5 1/2" high, and even it's own mallet! I have for auction an Antique Oak Wooden Barrel Keg. It comes with a spigot and a wrought iron handle. It has 4 metal hoops. One of the hoops has been replaced. The end of the barrel with the hole in it has been cracked and reglued together. See photos 5& 6. These barrels were also used on ships to hold water or ale, or used in the fields to bring water to the field hands. The barrel is 16" long, the end diameter is 10 1/2" The handle is 6" tall. The interior is lined with stainless and there are various connecting pipes inside. I believe this is the 40 gallon size barrel. I think this was designed for a smaller canister to sit inside. I am sure this could be m ade operational again. The barrel is in very good original conditiBon. There are 8 stainless steel bands around the outside. There are 3 claw feet on the bottom.
