Original 1950's plywood surf board made in Devon. England by the legendary Dick Pearce for West Country surfers. It measures 46.5 inches tall and 47.5 inches if you follow the curve. It is 12.25 inches wide. It's in excellent condition with just a few light scratches. Picture 6 Shows Dick's boards at the British museum of Surfing and pic 11 is a photo of Dick with his board. They have some temporary wrinkles from being rolled up for so long, but that should take care of itself after they are displayed. This is a fair quality older original hand printed silver halide gelatin photograph custom printed by longtime Hawaii professional surfing photographer Bill Romerhaus in a darkroom from the original negative. Archivally developed in chemistry on Ilford'Pearl' semi-matte surface black& white photographic paper and mounted on an 8x10 inch black backing board with caption and photography information on the back, of of sixties surfing legend Butch VanArtsdalen. It is initialed and dated on the front of the photo, and is shrink wrapped to protect it from damage and has preservation tips included in the label on the back. Butch, was originally from Virginia Beach, where he was born on January 31, 1941, and moved to La Jolla California when he was 14 years old, learned to surf at WindanSea Beach, and was one of the original members of ... morethe surf club named for the break. He also moved to Hawaii in the early 1960’s where he became a surfing pioneer and legend in Hawaii(and California) with his outstanding big wave surfing performances, which also earned him the title of“Mr. Pipeline(or the King) at the infamous Banzai Pipeline on Oahu’s north shore. He passed away on July 18, 1979 due to a health problem, and was considered as one of the best original big wave sixties surfers. He was also known for his ability to‘switch stance’ at this and other breaks. This photo was published in several magazines worldwide. Please be aware that this photo is unlike newer computer digital prints because the original was shot on older grainy black and white film and printed from a negative and when enlarged will look grainier and not quite as sharp as the large thumbnail in this listing. This is a used T shirt given to the competitors of the Surf and Ski classic. Held at Huntington Beach and Mountain High, in California. This was a contest that was never finished due to a severe bus accident on the way to Mountain High ski resort. Shirt has small holes(as seen in picture)
