25 feet of copper wire braided bare. I am not sure if this is 3/0 or 4/0. It appears TO ME to be 7 strands of 12 gauge wire. With the formula of diameter X diameter X# of strands(assuming 12 AWG) I come up with.5656. That places it real close to 4/0 but I am guessing that it looks like 12 wire to me. The grounding rod is home made. Its made from a 16 inch screw driver 3/8 inch thick with a 12 gauge cable connected to a squeeze clip. I drilled a hole through the screwdriver and soldered the 12 gauge cable directly into it. It works perfect for those people that are leery of grounding out a monitor. Audio Magic Ground Disrupter - Blue Dot grounding device. $700 MSRP Must try!
We have come across many kinds of grounding units. From passive units to active units. The Ground Disrupter- Blue Dot, is an active grounding unit that is simple to use and setup. Plug its power cord into an electrical outlet and then plug its single RCA into a spare RCA input on the preamp and then you are all set. With less expensive preamps, it's impact was more noticeable. Background was darker and quieter and at the same it"added" some liveliness to the overall music. Its almost like clearing out a choked windpipe. However, with more expensive preamps, the differences were less noticeable. And that is probably due to their better design and better grounding circuitry. The Ground Disrupter- Blue Dot, is not a finely executed product. Its pretty clear this didn't roll off a production line with microscopic tolerance for ... morefit and finish. So don't expect perfectly sealed edges and premium materials used. The Ground Disrupter- Blue Dot is all about getting the science right and applying it. And this it does very effectively to a certain degree. $700 is a princely sum of money to spend on something that does its job behind the scenes but if you have a system that seems to be hidden behind a veil. This may be the answer. Plus now that it is under $500, its well within the reach of owners in the $3,000- $5,000 system to try it out"painlessly.
