Just in time for Christmas. Something sweet for Dad, go ahead Dad, treat yourself to a very handy little gadget. This is a Starrett groove and thread micrometer Caliper No.481-1" This little cutie is from the archives but very accurate and mechanically sound, smooth operating mechanism and just an all around gem of a tool. Obviously you can mic anything up to an inch with it but it is the perfect tool for measuring just what it was intended to, paint shows some fatigue but other than that it is a great little tool in super shape and a sweet addition to any real tool collection. Lot of 3 Vintage 1/4 Metal Cutting Thread Taps Finger-Groove Joint Slide Top Box
For auction is this vintage. Set of 3, metal cutting, 1/4" threaded taps inside a wooden, box-joint, tongue-in-groove slide top, storage box. I am not certain as to the specific age of this box and its contents but I know the box is a heck of a lot older than me since I received it through my dad's estate. I believe the metal tapping tools inside the box are original to the piece but because I am not a metal worker and wouldn't know one end from the other, I cannot say with certainty. Please look at the photos and discern for yourself. I only kept this box because I like old antique boxes and tools. This piece looked great and was only used for display among my other pieces. All the metal taps appear to be sharp and useable with no to very minor surface oxidation that can easily be mitigated with some machine oil and a little"000" ... moresteel wool. The box lid slides on and off easily and has a little fingernail cut-out on the top so the lid can be pulled opened when it's closed. The wood on the box remains in very good shape as I see no splitting. Cracks or damage. The box measures approximately 3.25" long, 1-3/8" wide and 5/16" thick. There are no marking or labels antwhere on the box so I am unable to say with certainty who manufactured this piece. Perhaps the new owner has a better understanding of these tools and better eyesight that will able them to identify what period this piece dates from. Overall. The box displays very nicely as it has acquired a pleasant and smooth darkened colored patina finish across its wood surface. The wood shows no cracks, splitting or repaired damage. There are scratches and blemishes, as you would expect to see on a piece like this, but nothing that detracts from the attractiveness of this vintage tool piece. This vintage wood box contains a total of 3 metal tapping cutters that I believe are valued at a lot more than $1.00 each. Combined with an original box joint constructed wooden storage box.
